Maybe? My baseline assumption is that the modal issue polling respondent has ~no beliefs on the subject and is choosing what sounds right, but maybe the distribution has shifted.

When I read an issue poll I assume it’s something like

70% - just choosing what sounds good
20% - know this is a proxy for a political party, booster answer
4.9% - think they know enough about the issue to have a real answer
0.1% - actually know enough for a real answer
5% - lizardman’s constant

For sure, but Dems haven't been able to pass immigration reform - legislative viability seems to require draconian design that fractures the Dem coalition.

It may now be too late, but if Dems get another chance at doing it their way, some bleeding hearts may need to be told to go on and bleed.

I wouldn't conflate "turning right" with the unhinged national populism of MAGA.

The most sane and responsible conservative position is to accept regional trends as they are and make migration an asset of U.S. national power and free markets.

No matter how much factual material MSM provides that undocumented immigrants are productive members of the community, positively contribute to the economy, or that their crime rates are significantly lower than average. The MAGA still want to punish them for being here.
