In the art museum in Hamburg, in the modern section, there was a long display of banned books during a certain dark time during German history. There were photos of book burnings and text about how you'd get in trouble for owning those titles. Just sayin'...
Like internet in the late 80s there are no regulations, laws, oversight. It all has happened so rapidly no governance can keep up in regards to copyright of material. Sadly I'm not sure this ship can be turned around. Downloading of music and pirating is another example. It's out of control
Retired children’s librarian wanting freedom to read for all. As a parent, you can choose to control what your own children read, but not everyone else’s
Thank you for all that you do. The library was my happy safe place when I was growing up. I wish there was more understanding that a library is so much more than books & reading opens up the whole world.
Hello. I love libraries as a place to study, but as a phd English student, I am appalled that state governments and/or local school boards are banning books. I guess to them reading is not to expand the minds.
“The problem in our country isn't with books being banned, but with people no longer reading. You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.”
― Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
isn’t there a real risk that so-called ‘books’ might contain ideas some don’t like? on that basis alone, surely banning, and then burning them all, is the sensible option. ahem.
Hi! I have thinking and now saying to friends that we need to have hard copy books: history, science, art, poetry, math . Of great importance is history. Not sanitized . Primary source material if we can .
I can’t even count the times I’ve found children’s books ( fiction and non) that support the LGBTQ+ community shoved under shelves and hidden behind furniture at my library. People need to see themselves represented in books. People need to have access to books that provide support.
Public librarian here! I’ve been putting as many book displays up to bring awareness to marginalized communities. I’m afraid down the road all of those books will be taken. I live in a red state so someone is going to freak out about the transgender awareness display I just put up
My first vampire book was banned at a local event because a church that was one of the sponsors didn’t approve of the undead. The town of Forks is in our state. Being banned years ago has helped my sales.
I followed you. I am a BIBLIOPHILE. Libraries were my refuge from a deeply hostile, violent world in my youth.
Now, books are my haven, calls to action and reflection of a broader vision for life.
I’ll be one once I graduate soon-ish. I’m looking fwd to it but dread having to handle censorship & other changes. Then again I’m not quite the sweet, compliant person I was yrs ago. 😈
Way off topic but I hope you like the Margot Robbie SNL skit where she is a librarian. I used to get tossed from the library at noon for reading Newsweek, Time and USN&WR, and imitating the main political players, during the early 80s. Always got kicked out. Always let back in. Good times.
Hello to all the Librarians here! Thank you for always, always encouraging reading and for standing your ground in this time of troubles for we, the readers. We’re standing our ground too. 💙
Indeed i’m agreed and plead we intercede in the greed that would mislead our young so they’re freed to read and seed and feed their minds and succeed in becoming the citizens we so sorely need

THANK YOU for our libraries
You’d be missed of you weren’t here

Have you looked into helping the blind?
