If that’s a rubber pellet you’re not even allowed to directly shoot people with that weapon. Huge violation. LA taxpayers are gonna pay out the ass for that.

Well she certainly didn’t look like a violent protester. I truly hope this guys gets thrown jail for that. And I hope she gets a huge settlement from him and whatever he represents.
Theoretically, one fires into the ground and lets the ricochet do the work. While the ricochet would still have the kinetic force to harm or injure, it would be less force than being hit by the projectile direct from the launcher/gun.
My "fuck all cops" stance has long been seen as extreme but as time goes on it becomes more and more of an acceptable stance, because name another job where you can get away with what officers get away with
So often people make this argument using the phrase "one bad apple" as if it's a trump card. They forget that the full phrase is "One bad apple spoils the bunch." and I have yet to see them actually make a reasonable effort to toss said bad apples.
Discouraging to see that Australian media is as addicted to cop-friendly euphemism as American media is. She wasn’t “caught in the crossfire,” she was “standing there doing her job when a cop aimed a weapon at her and fired”
You can change the title about caught in a crossfire. There’s pictures of him targeting her.. the propaganda only works in foreign countries not this one.
I'll get right on it, because that, and all the other editorial changes that happened to the headline since it was first published are totally within my power. 🙄
If you stick past the clip of her getting hit, there's a segment of the reporter overlooking the overpass, apparently after being shot, the anchor brings it up but the reporter either opts not to elaborate or didn't hear during what's obviously a noisy live remote.
It's also interesting to note her reporting frames the protests as represenative of Angelinos, not some sort of radical agit mob or whatever the administration has been pushing, not sure whether the U.S. outlets are reporting that or what the rest of the world is seeing.
it would not even slightly surprise me if the LAPD has a hitlist of "unfriendly" media they are supposed to harass. They learned from the "best". (IDF)
What a shitty headline. “Crossfire” implies that two sides were shooting at each other and she stepped in between. Clearly that’s not what happened here. They shot at HER, on purpose.
They might as well go back to rock salt shells, at this point. Those rubber bullets are supposed to be fired at the ground so the ball bounces up at the shins. He's doing the thing the box it came in said not to do, basically. No excuse.
The news reporter won't do anything as she'll be afraid to lose her working visa, risk becoming"part of the story" or tanking her career. Her bosses won't do anything as they won't want to lose "access". The cops probably target foreign journalists on purpose as they're a "soft" target.
Imagine having the impunity to justify shooting an unarmed and unaware civilian in the back on television. The fact that a city can just write a check and excuse this sort of trash is unacceptable. And there's still going to be people telling me the cops need MORE and not less.

No gd reason for LAPD to shoot a woman intentionally.

FFS, she was targeted and then shot !!
Clear as day, on video, the whole situation.
There is no nuance here.
WTAF @9newsaus.bsky.social ?? Why do you have such a hard time reporting the truth ???

I hate these lying headlines that excuse the behavior of fascists.
Fire was only coming from one side: the cops.

Come on, Lauren~
I mentioned this to my male city councilor, and said it’s why they need more oversight.
