It was in her new Ukulele book, which starts even more basic than the fun "chords for songs" book she had before - so a "this is a note and this is how you'll see it on the page' kind of thing.
Got my exam results and failed 1/3 papers, but it wasn’t the one I thought I bombed - I actually got a Merit on the horrible one!
So just a resit in November for a section I really like. ❤️❤️
My ten year old has had an entire week of creating Loki activity book pastiches including the spot the turd activity. (spoiler- the tenth turd is Baldur)
For the first time in five years I'm sitting down looking at an editor's notes on a new novel(ish thing) (and having to respond to them/deal with them).
I'm humbled, and slightly puzzled, by her apparent belief that I have some special understanding of my book and actually know what it means.
"Interesting rhythmic devices too, which seemed to counterpoint the surrealism of the underlying metaphor of the humanity of the author's compassionate soul, which contrives through the medium of the prose structure...
...to sublimate this, transcend that, and come to terms with the fundamental dichotomies of the other, and one is left with a profound and vivid insight into whatever it was the book was about."
IT was so great. And everyone watched as they sat down--and of course immediately removed the hat so people behind could see! We talked afterward; very lovely person!
I felt a little sad when my (much younger) unofficial husband referred to himself as 'your other son', until I remembered that the day before I'd texted him 'Hi Mum, I'm safe home'.
Nothing brings me greater happiness than the joy I get from my delightful children. Anyway my weekly good news is that they are both elsewhere tomorrow night so I'm off on an actual date with my wife.
We're off to the seaside in Wales tomorrow (Mothers Day trip) and Sunday the boys and I are off to see the mighty Wigan Warriors with hospitality! (Birthday treat for me)
I... think... maybe... I broke my creative slump? Have a new dummy, playing with a new style, got a ton of PBParty requests, started querying again yesterday... progress? (ask me again in a couple weeks how *that* is going.)
Not like, “stuff I have to read, analyse, comment on, pigeon hole, and put into the system” reading, just “interesting stuff people have written that I get to read, no pressure” reading.
But also totally anonymous, and this is by design.
It touches on some sensitive topics and it has the potential to go dark real fast, so this way people get to say what they need to say without fear of judgement.
I conducted a little experiment that succeeded beyond my hopes. I’d salvaged two bedspreads that neighbors tossed in a bin. Decided to try to dye one and give it a new lease on life. The dye took on the fabric, but not on the seams, creating a lovely lacy pattern! And it was so easy.
First apparatus PE session for my Reception Class. Seeing them conquer their nerves whilst climbing the apparatus, and their joy at doing so, made my week.
The 10 year old has learnt to ride a bike after years being too nervous to try without stabilisers or on a trike, thanks to the brilliant people at Bikeability!
The bird nerd in me came out - Got to go “twitching” with my 10yo bird enthusiast in local park. Saw grey wagtail which we’d also seen in the Hebrides …this was the last bird a lifelong @rspb.bsky.social family member who passed away recently identified for us. Made me smile good memories 🥹

Not a great item on the scales but still.
Also, how delighted my daughter was with "...Unruly Activities".
Also, also, how fast she picked up the concept of 'tab' for presenting musical notes.
...
Also, also, also, I got out on the bike (not shown) for an all too brief school run yesterday.

And I'm off to see about teaching a writing class at the village art studio this afternoon! Wish me luck!
Honours remain even, I'd say 😁
I sold some of my new book Saltburn.
I got invited to some events.
I met some people (a library buyer who’s ordered some books).
As I didn’t have a launch, this was a launch of sorts.
Very nice. 😊

We still have to work together, after all.
Five is blissfully unaware he's getting new cage mates
