The smoke signals from the mountain and the drums from the forest, are telling me that Magster and the Auriaku Koi, is at the printers. I mean, I hope that's good news...
I bought a keyboard that looks very much like the one from my childhood computer, except this one is wireless and will work with my iPad. My quest to write more accessibly continues!
I was reminded how damn good my GP is. My sister and I created a great way to share our mother's legacy. And I had a delicious salmon and cream cheese bagel.
Sushi book and game edits are back, minimal work, editor's very happy and so am I:)
Got good feedback on my first ever video game voice work
Got to the movies twice this week, Sinners and Warfare, both very good.
Off to see A Knight's Tale in Manchester tomorrow:)
Yeah! It's been SO busy so far this month (Up to York for my dad's 80th, off to Luxembourg for our first ever guest of honour work at a con) and then all this. But it's all good:)
I’ve created a prompt challenge and shared it here to make sure I actually create a piece I had an idea for and seems like a few folks are excited to join in! 😊 Yay community 🙌
That made me SO happy. I'd had this prediction last series that the Doctor would turn out to be inside a TV show (cos of all the fourth wall breakage), this was a fun twist on that....still think he's inside a broader story universe mind you! Also, them getting surnames in the titles!
Good news - we got the last of the boxes out of storage so all my stuff is home and we're saving a couple of hundred quid a month in fees.
Bad news - I now have eleventy-billion boxes to unpack and I have to find homes for it all!
I revealed the title and cover of THE CHANGELING CHILD, and got lots of lovely comments about it from people who loved my first book about fearsome faeries. 😊
I got great feedback on the chapter revision of my first novel from my cover artist. She was really admiring of the new imagery I'd put in the chapter.
Fast approaching the midpoint on drafting next year's Cesare Aldo historical thriller. Once I reach the mountaintop, it's all downhill on the other side! [Well, sorta...]
We bought a second barristers bookcase for a really good price and the guy selling it is delivering it from the other end of the country for cheap as we are 'on the way'. To where? Who knows. But I am glad we are.
Our new book just arrived after many years of work! I co-edited this essay collection, partly during the initial Covid years which were a curveball for lots of areas of our lives including the subject matter of this project ...
I learned that scientists are playing the sounds of healthy coral reefs through speakers in damaged ones and it's attracting fish back to rebuild them.
"Er, is this it?"
"Yes, er, in fairness, it sounded nicer than this on the old wireless."
"Oh well, I guess we'd better make it better now we're here. I'll unpack. So, where's Nemo?"
"Oh."
Cue: Finding Nemo meets Home Alone. This time, Nemo hasn't got lost. He's been left behind.
My debut collection turned one year old, and I am still extremely proud of it. I really thought I'd hate looking back at some of the stories in there, but no, I still love it. https://blackshuckbooks.co.uk/hunting-by-the-river/
It's only on for the next week so if you can get to it in that time I HIGHLY recommend you do!! I genuinely considered changing my train back home to go see it again tomorrow 😆
I made tahinopita for Easter last weekend and it turned out well and was delicious. Unfortunately it was all eaten before I thought I should have taken a picture.
I got a distinction in my apprenticeship exams, which also means I got to buy *2* books I had being eyeing up, rather than 1
Also got an interview for an exciting new opportunity on Monday so 🤞🤞🤞 for that
One of my class at my wee school had one of those proper, ‘I get this now’ moments. And I got the sun coming up on my bike this morning. Hope yours has been good.
I'm away for a long weekend with extended family. We're under a gazebo in rain, but I've played with my cousins' kids on a playground, we've had running races, a 7 yo told me how to make effective fart noises with my hands & mouth, & the grown ups have enough wine. Aka, we're having a good time 👍.
YES the Doctor (you'd have to be dead inside to not love him, man's a living shot of espresso and sunshine) but also I still cannot get over my tattoo 🤗💖
Doing a gig with a total Legend tomorrow. Been looking forward to it for AGES. Also, a number of new exercise Personal Bests have happened this week...
I’m off on a UK tour today! Always bitter sweet cause leaving the family is so hard, but I’m looking forward to spending some time in the old homeland.
He and his friends hang out at school and teach each other tricks and discuss different types of yo-yos. It is all delightfully wholesome for preteen social interaction!
Sinners, the film. A masterpiece. Haven't had that sense of "this is a 100% classic" since watching Shawshank Redemption about 30 years ago. One to watch and rematch.
Takes an admirably long time to build up to the horror and the landscapes are stunning. Plus the awesome soundtrack. I still can't get my head around Michael B Jordan playing two roles.
What a feckin week it has been!
There’s always good though, we visited Ahimsa Animal Sanctuary which a newer small sanctuary local to me that has a handful of piggies. We got to rub the tummies of piglets ♥️🐷

And all the cacti are blooming - beautiful! 🌵
Coral Reef Greatest Hits ftw!!!!

Exciting and stressful times ahead!!
In other news, it's unlikely to survive the weekend. 😋🍫
A dear friend has safely escaped the US and settled elsewhere.
And I got a sneak peek at a simply stunning anthology coming out from @notapipe.bsky.social...soonish.
(Nothing writing related ever happens in my town 😂)
[I experienced this, peak 80s school experience I suspect]
This is the second set I passed, there were 3 in the earlier clutch. 😊
