Also! @bonabooks.bsky.social have a kickstarter for their new anthology called Wrath Month. They are the masters of brilliant anthology titles; the first one was called I want that Twink obliterated.
I’m on holiday! The first solo holiday with Mr Ali since we got together (again- we first met in 1989) in 2013. Step-teen is with his mum visiting family in Illinois.
Magster 2 released this week and I also had a fab time at BBC Northampton, being interviewed by Bernie Keith, again.
I can also confirm that I am now in possession of both of my new tropical summer shirts.
I got a triple in breakfast this morning!
And, my girls will getting home from a trip to Euro Disney early this evening.
And, one of my mates (not on bluesky) has had a potentially marriage-saving epiphany.
Thank you. And, thank you for doing this thread every week - not only is it lovely to see all the cool things, it forces (gently encourages) me to end even pig-awful weeks like this one on a happier note.
After a month gone I cooked entree for 30 Santa Cruz homeless; we deliver. Chicken pot pie w/biscuit. PLUS water, FRESH green salad, fresh baked cookies, fruit, chips, protein bars, socks, etc. Sourced food bank plus purchases w/donated funds. Plus volunteer cooks often just absorb some cost
The library APPROVED my purchase requests (The Cat Bride; The Staircase in the Woods) and they've ordered them AND I'm first on the list of people to get them when they come in AND that means I'm allowed EIGHT books on my Reservations List, not just the usual six!!!!!!
A cardinal couple has made a nest in a bush right by the windows on the front of my house. Yesterday, a fledgling sat on a branch, cheeping a staring into my house like nothin's nothin'. I took a picture but it was crap. Trust me that baby cardinals are uglidorable.
At the end of last week/beginning of this a book of mine (THE FRIDAY GIRL) finally broke the Kindle top 100 (and hit #1 in Scottish crime for a bit). Just to know that people are actually buying your work (even if for one day) is a huge morale booster!
I bought myself this wibbly wobbly pen with a “lil space guy” (non-gender specific) on it when I took my niece to the Science Museum and gave us both a temper to spend on STUPID TUT in the gift shop :)
It has been a great week for good news here!
- Early readers of The Changeling Child have said very nice things about the book. - I got to announce that both books about fearsome faeries are coming to North America soon.
- A nice bit of book news that I can‘t talk about yet…
- And long weekend!
I’ve been enjoying some glorious countryside, and also been offered more freelance work from the people who a) are nice b) always pay on time c) confirmed that Ai is banned at their organisation (yay!)
Looong weekend! Saw my eldest do her solo unicycle act for an audience and am now an even more proud Mama. Had my guitar exam and did not loose my cool.
The new shop is flying <3 and also might (almost definitely, think we just need pick the venue lol) have a hinge date next week. Really feel like I'm settling into Leeds a bit more
Of the two cats we're cat sitting at our house, the super shy one has finally moved from hiding under beds to hiding under the kitchen table, and now comes out for pats and food when I call her.
(The blankets are a cat cubby over the chairs to make hiding more effective and cosier).
@racheltaylorbeales.bsky.social did it for a music/poetry rec with @robinince.bsky.social cos he wrote a poem on it after a chat w/me a while back. What a totally mad (devastatingly humbling, flattering) turn of events. And the pic is amazing 😱😱
Imagine being baked at midnight, writing, then that appearing. The whole thing has been totally batshit in the loveliest way, was chatting to the artist earlier and she's great. Big up @robinince.bsky.social for facilitating it all btw, such strange and delightful things happen in his orbit.
Innit?! She's offered to give me the original too. Just been having a right old chat, didn't know her before, but she's totally lovely. What a randomly bonkers yet utterly delightful turn of events, couldn't fuckin believe it when that appeared 🤣
I have finished my academic year as a Royal Literary Fund Fellow and had a lovely lunch with other fellows in Edinburgh yesterday. And I’m sending out bookplates to bookshops designed by my kid! #YasQueen #NateYu
Oh it has been a good week! I sold a piece of art, completed another and my mum sent me this photo with the the words “Jingles’ arch nemesis”.
Jingles is her cat.
This a million times over. We’ve been so blown away in an otherwise rubbish situation by people’s kindness and how everyone- even people who don’t know Stuart have rallied around. True humanity at its finest 🥹 https://www.gofundme.com/f/stuart-minty
