Dreams getting darker: last night I dreamt I was with some people who were trying to cover up a murder they’d committed. Still, what do I expect if I watch Vera just before bedtime?

It’s amazing how the former head of the University of Dundee thinks that “the buck stops here” and “I take full responsibility” are performative speech acts that don’t need to be backed up by action. Still, thank god they paid him £300K a year to ensure a quality hire. www.bbc.com/news/article...

After the previous night’s dream where I hung out with a fictional friend, last night’s dream involved running into a former colleague I’ve not seen in twenty years.

With all my colleagues away from their desks today for a variety of reasons, I think I might be in charge today – what shall I do? ;-)

American judges will always reward copyright infringement by big American technology companies. (See Google Books for instance.)

If you read books and have 2-5mins to spare, filling out this survey will help me in developing an app that puts Irish storytelling in the palm of your hand! Gowan, be sound 😁✨ #Booksky #UKkidlit #speirgorm #storytelling #IrishArtist #StudentInc

“For others, however, the old-fashioned, ideal sort of reading—intense, extended, beginning-to-end encounters with carefully crafted texts—has become almost anachronistic. These readers might start a book on an e-reader and then continue it on the go, via audio narration.” Dismally stupid.

Visited Dachau fourteen years today: a harrowing experience.

Delighted Gareth Southgate has got his knighthood. Two finals, one semi-final, and a quarter-final – we’d not been in a final since 1966; not been in a semi-final since 1996. We’d never reached a final overseas. We won nine knock-out ties (inc penalties), under Southgate, compared to five 1980-2016.

Current status: drafting and deleting a *lot* of status updates.

Got through the work day – and a few unexpected metaphorical potholes in the path – without quite getting a full-on headache.

I had a dream last night which mostly involved hanging out with a fictional friend, and at several points today I’ve had tiny pangs of missing them, which is a bit weird.

Typed 'didn't' so badly that autocorrect suggested 'dirndl'.

For publishing dissertations at Stirling, we use Chicago for referencing and give students the option of using footnotes or inline citations. This year, almost everyone is choosing footnotes.

Maintaining the absence of a headache throughout the day is an even greater triumph, when it occurs.

Have seemingly reached the point where waking up without a full-on headache is a triumph.

A government that continually hurts the weakest. Cutting support for the most vulnerable and never raising taxes for those who could afford it. www.theguardian.com/world/2025/j...

Amazing. The British government’s minister for universities – who’s shown not the slightest interest in the ongoing university crisis – now wants to pick the pockets of international students, with the money going … somewhere she won’t tell us.
