The ineffably cool Peter Capaldi Rex Harrison-ing all over Frank Ferdinand’s Take Me Out is both hilarious and glorious.

Twelve-year-old me on television! (The boy in the blue jumper deliberately staying in shot for as long as possible in the background of a dismal 1980s sitcom.) youtu.be/dWDuhddyXvs?...

Having spent the last week trying valiantly to get things done without triggering a full-on headache that would put me out of action, today I’ll be trying to balance catching up on the things I didn’t get done with having enough of a rest to make it less likely I’m in the same situation next week.

Found an old photo of a message from a hotel about the minibar in my “on this day” feed, and, as it predated phone photos and so had had no GPS data, I looked up the name of the person who signed it on LinkedIn to work out which hotel it was. I should really get out more.

Last night’s dream: I was a lecturer in a place where staff and students all lived and worked in the same building, and I was being shown a new system where one had to take a sort of plastic token to use a shower cubicle.

Meanwhile, Trump will no doubt attempt to bomb Canada over the weekend.

Starmer’s hopeless, isn’t he? Gifted a huge election victory by the Tories’ implosion, he’s not got the first idea of what to do with it.

Watched an episode of a 1970s sitcom over dinner: Now Look Here, co-written by Barry Cryer and starring Ronnie Corbett. It was basically a proto-Sorry and not very good.

Rod Stewart still rubbish, then?

It’s raining in Stirling and the hourly chance of rain doesn’t go below 75% until tomorrow. Still, at least we’re not sweltering up here.

Ireland & UK #DigitalHumanities folk, would you like to help shape the development of the UK-Ireland DH Association? There’s an open call for expressions of interest to join the organising collective (3 new members) & we’d love to hear from you whether you’re in HE, GLAM or somewhere else entirely!

Looks like it’s going to be another day of balancing getting so much work done with not bringing on the incipient headache. Yesterday seemed a step forward; today, less so.

Dreams getting darker: last night I dreamt I was with some people who were trying to cover up a murder they’d committed. Still, what do I expect if I watch Vera just before bedtime?

It’s amazing how the former head of the University of Dundee thinks that “the buck stops here” and “I take full responsibility” are performative speech acts that don’t need to be backed up by action. Still, thank god they paid him £300K a year to ensure a quality hire. www.bbc.com/news/article...

After the previous night’s dream where I hung out with a fictional friend, last night’s dream involved running into a former colleague I’ve not seen in twenty years.

With all my colleagues away from their desks today for a variety of reasons, I think I might be in charge today – what shall I do? ;-)

American judges will always reward copyright infringement by big American technology companies. (See Google Books for instance.)

If you read books and have 2-5mins to spare, filling out this survey will help me in developing an app that puts Irish storytelling in the palm of your hand! Gowan, be sound 😁✨ #Booksky #UKkidlit #speirgorm #storytelling #IrishArtist #StudentInc
