Here’s commuting in the United States (2023 ACS) vs Canada (2021 census). Both are overwhelmingly by car but Canada has more transit and active transportation.

Dismal stats
Remember that when it comes to cities, transport, housing & public policy - North America has led the world over the last century… precisely in the wrong direction!

Merci.
A constant difference in the different categories. There's a theme.
I tried to find one that compared large American/Canadian/Québecois cities...
Quebec and Ontario are similar on transit but Quebec is higher on cycling (although both have more transit than cycling).
In general Canadian cities outperform US ones on transit. From memory, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver have more transit ridership than anywhere in the US outside of NYC.
If you took out NYC the difference would probably be a bit more stark. In Canada Toronto, Vancouver and MTL definitely punch above their weight, but they’re not as atypical as NYC is for the states.
