the doorbuster items were so good. i worked at radioshack around the same time and my favorite thing we tried to push was this $89 5.1 surround system with an unpowered subwoofer that didn't really do anything and was just for decoration

I impulse bought a digital camera from RadioShack on black friday once and the pictures it took were so low quality I just dropped it in the garbage. Was too embarrassed to even return it.
I was trying to explain Radio Shack to my kid last night (“I got this great remote control car when I was 11…”) and its magic is too ineffable to explain to someone born in this century.
Me: Walks in the door, heads straight for the back.
Guy at counter: HELLO CAN I HELP YOU!
Me: just looking for a couple DPST sliders and a 10k pot.
Guy: Oh, you're one of those *drawer* people. OK.
My favorite Shack customers were the parts people. They were self-guided, needed very little help and really only bothered me to ask if I could call another store if we were out of a particular part.
The ones I hated were the free battery & flashlight people. You got to know them on sight.
let me tell you what my dad could get every type of connector and wire and whatever to run the vcr sound through the stereo system at that store though whew

One year my brother and I went door-to-door pretending to collect newspapers for recycling.
We were just trying to get the coupons.
