It currently takes 10.5 hours by train to travel from Quebec City to Toronto via Montreal. If Canada proceeds with a high-speed rail system, the trip would take only 4.5 hours.

The schedule is 5-6 days from Terrace to Vancouver, and any one of those stages will be 3 or 4 hours late.
That would be 12 km per hour.

We need to buy land for a Trans-Canada corridor, Vancouver to Halifax.
Outside the mountains capable of maglev speed to future proof.
Wide enough for additional freight lines & probably a public owned pipeline from AB to Ontario.

Still with high speed rail express Toronto to Montreal could be 2 hours. That would be AWESOME.
90 min + 30 min boarding time + arrive an hour or more early + 30 min baggage + the airport is much further out than a convenient rail station.
Plus easier to work / more comfortable on a train
The value of time is far different on rail as it is easier and more comfortable to work. And out-of-vehicle journey time by air is far more than rail.
That is why @aircananda.bsky.social is part of the winning consortium, cause they would like to run fewer shorthauls and more profitable long hauls.
It's expensive but the benefits far outweighs the cost. Especially because the train will grow the economy and pay for itself over the decades ... my lord
