Adding retaliatory tariffs is just going to cause price rises and inflationary price pressures in the countries of those that do, which disproportionally hurt the poorest. Governments can provide many incentives for private companies to forge new trade relationships with other, less insane nations.

Have you found an alternative to Sunpack peanut butter. Only 😟 regret of my boycott. However in the UK we have so many US Private equity companies have bought UK brands it's a challenge. But shopping at Lidl helps as most is continental or local. Still I will miss Sunpack.

No if we respond with tariffs it’s not the seller that pays the tariff but the buyer and the tariff monies go to the treasury the extra cost is passed on to the consumer inflation rises

Everything is a question of balance. In fine, if the UK puts no tariff on anything, and all other countries put tariffs on UK products, you end up in a situation where economies of scale mean that absolutely nothing is produced in the UK.
