I called a friend “harmless” once, and he brought me something called a Mind Eraser. Then, being a fundamentally Lawful Good human, poured me into my hotel room.
Oh we've talked about this before 😁 She needs them to want to buy the story to be able to prioritize writing it, and for that to happen, the publisher needs to see there's a demand for more.
Sorry, I was unclear typing too early in the morn! Ursula and I have discussed this before, back on Twitter, she's the source of "the publisher has to want to buy it so they need to know there's a demand"
Those sound interesting, but then I’m in the southeast. I tried a variety from Baker Creek that were propagated from very old beans found stored in a New Mexico cave- unimaginatively named “1500 Year Old Cave Beans”. They grew decently for me, but would probably do better in their native climate.
Oh, well, I suppose I’m not surprised. Just something I remembered getting as a curiosity a few years ago with a more specific backstory than most- but I guess that can sometimes conversely make something less credible, lol.
I have some of your books published under one name, some under the other; should I shelve them in my personal library separately, all under V, or all under K?
Yes, and Yes. I’m hoping to get Marcus’s book this year, which may be a novella, but Wren’s will be after that and set up the plot for Judith’s finale.
Fewer than she spent with Grace and Stephen,
what with the occasional random
"We've got to save the Newts!"
every time they're about to finally get together after previous bad decisions.
What agave are you most excited to grow? Have you looked into crevice gardens? Will you set a limit on the number of agaves you’ll grow? (I haven’t and um, it’s getting interesting…)
Ah, sorry for confusion, I was responding to Ursula’s Grey Gator comment. You’ve got variegated Agave Americana, which sadly is not cold tolerant. I had a handsome 4 ft guy in a pot but last winter was too much for it.
If your layover at LAX is going to last a while longer, you could swing by my house and pick up a baby from this monster that is growing in my front yard. I have no idea what kind it is but I'm sure they'd let you take it on the plane to Tucson, right? It's Tucson, they love succulents!
And by the way, we don't cultivate that grass and would prefer not to have it, but whenever it rains a lot as it has recently, the stuff is pernicious and absolute bastard to get rid of.
Also born and raised in Tucson and also recently went back to visit and had a ridiculously good breakfast burrito at Tumerico while there. I highly recommend it if you have time for breakfast!
I love to visit there, sadly I can't bring buy or bring back any of the native seeds from Tucson to Canada. They frown on that type of stuff. You could always take a car up Mount Lemmon, there is snow up there now. Old Tucson or Sonora Desert Museum..which is basically a wildlife Zoo. :)
I’m eagerly awaiting my library hold for The River Has Roots, but I need to catch up on Katherine Addison before I can read her newest. Will have to look into Alan Rodgers.
Not a question, just a thanks: I read the Hamster Princess series to a boy I've been tutoring in ELA:
* it was the first time he ever got into a book outside the 1 series he'd been willing to read;
* it helped his vocabulary & writing improve dramatically;
* he loved the characters, plot, & humor
😃🫡
I worked at a Starbucks as a 15ish years ago and we all hated scooping daiquiri ice because it was hard as a rock and hardly anyone ordered it so it froze solid. But it was so good.
There's one here in N. Seattle that has Daiquiri Ice pretty much always. I go in and buy a quart once in awhile. I like to mix it with Chocolate Fudge because I'm weird like that.
Not a question but I have managed to read almost everything you have written and they are absolutely amazing. But Nettle and Bone holds a so place in my heart. Bonedog reminds me of my pittie mix who has gone forth onto his next adventure. Thank you so much for sharing your amazing stories with us.
Apparently the little wee plane from LAX to Tucson comes from Colorado, and was canceled due to bad weather, so they had to scramble to get a replacement.
Nope, not a pro thing. You've just often said "If you want to know something, ask!" and I've had basically zero idea how to do that, and responding to a random message in bluesky (or @ing you in a post) seemed weird. I'm probably just too much of an introvert.
How far in advance did you plan those choose-your-own-adventure threads on Twitter-that-was? Did you have like a map of the area, or was it pretty much improv?
The formatting would probably be a nightmare, but I'd honestly love to see those collected somehow. Maybe with bonus Eland journal from LJ. I'm particularly fascinated to see how the most recent one goes if you ever get back to it, after poor Jimmy lost like 8 adventurers...
I am too late to ask you anything, but I finished Swordheart last night and it was great! I devoured it. I hadn’t read any of your work before - just saw your posts on Bsky and followed. Thank you for being here because I can’t wait to discover the rest of your writing. Enjoy Tucson. Live it there
My dyscalculia makes it really really hard for me not to say Diane Diane for Diane Duane. This has caused problems when directing people towards her at conventions.
Just discovered the Saint of Steel books two weeks ago and I’ve already read all four in the series, Swordheart, Clockwork Boys and I’m almost done w The Wonder Engine. I can’t wait for more books! I’ve been singing your praises to all my friends. Thank you so much.
That observation is very in keeping with her novels!
I bought a ticket to Anthrocon just to get into the Dealer Room to buy it. Had a nice chat with Ursula until she got a text that the skull she wanted was about to come up in the auction and she hurried off to bid.
Did you get an updated MMR? (Measles) The shot Gen X got turns out to be unreliable. (Airports are little Petri dishes, and there was a case of measles going thru LAX last week, and I just got my new shot this afternoon; so it is On My Mind.)
As a Boomer, I got my measles immunity the hard way (though my wife dodged it somehow), and maybe-its-mumps, but not rubella, so we got our MMR shots the other month.
And of course Tdap (since pertussis immunity wanes, so get boosted every 10 years, or 5 if you get nasty wounds or cat bites.)
Purely random. I started Swordheart, needed the name of a god, checked Clockwork Boys/The Wonder Engine, found the name not attached to anything, and said “That’ll do!”
I've been around since the old phalloi days of dA, but missed some between bits so if this is silly ignore! What has changed in your inspiration/creative since then? How does creation evolve for you? I'm in a fallow period of creativity so I like to see how others tend the garden so to speak!
I think I am too late, but now that you're closer to the west coast, do you think you'll do any cons in California? I would love to get my shiny Swordheart signed while I try not to be weird about it.
Will Zale get their own book at some stage? They’ve been so unflappable and helpful to everyone and I’d like to see them have their own special reward.
no guarantee because various issues, but is there anything (aside from the obvious purchasing of your work) those of us out here can do that would improve your life?

“Galen, I’ve never tested how many rabbits I could fight off at a time. It just hasn’t come up.” ?
because I laugh at that every time I see a rabbit.
I am very curious about the stories of the other two companions.
Not that I do not like your other books.
Nettle & Bone is on my eternal recommendation list, if someone asks me, what to read…
♥️♥️♥️
Thank you!
Was Mr. Stabby the inspiration for the “inedible” orange plant that showed up in the Fathers arc of Hidden Almanac?
(I also love all those books, and I'm currently playing a ttrpg paladin with a lot of inspiration from these books.)
Thank you for writing books.
uhhh
Which couple's romance from the Saint's of Steel was your favourite to write?
what with the occasional random
"We've got to save the Newts!"
every time they're about to finally get together after previous bad decisions.
(I finished them and turned straight to convincing her)
That's like serious author lapping everyone else.
Day job, freelancing, parenting, and writing take up pretty much everything haha.

😃🫡
All my really good ideas are like that.
Darn auto correct
I just finished my second re-read, so 3 times. They are my happy place.
For general comfort, Firewater, old Nine Inch Nails, Concrete Blonde, and Nick Cave’s Murder Ballads.
At least I don't say Duran Duran...
I bought a ticket to Anthrocon just to get into the Dealer Room to buy it. Had a nice chat with Ursula until she got a text that the skull she wanted was about to come up in the auction and she hurried off to bid.
You really should write a Weatherwax novel.
(Not a question, sorry)
And of course Tdap (since pertussis immunity wanes, so get boosted every 10 years, or 5 if you get nasty wounds or cat bites.)
2) The politics in NC are gettin’ weird
3) We have a lot of friends here
I contain multitudes.
