Not a recommendation 'cause it's not my kind of film and I didn't find it that great, but it's one to look up as it's got the longest cast list of star actors you'll recognise I've ever seen. And I've seen A Bridge Too Far. It's called The Thin Red Line (1998) - didn't know of it until last year.

Yes, it's great cinema by Mr Malick, but I didn't find it hugely enjoyable. Haunting, moving, an exhaustive selection of horrors of war, lots of shots of swaying grass and meaningful dialogue, I thought the sequence with John Cusack was the best bit.

Yep, pretty much the same, Jeef. Heard that many of the actors took low pay or offered to appear for free. One of the main ones was almost completely edited out of the film.

That is a cracking description of it, Peter. Wondered why I smelled so odd after watching it. Really stings the nostrils.
I've some strange tastes. One of my favourite ever films from when I was quite young is The Killing Fields. War central, but not a battlefield-fest.
