In the race to become the next PM - and maybe the next one after that - Mark Carney and Pierre Poilievre did interviews in their respective safest places. That Carney chose Jon Stewart and Poilievre chose Jordan Peterson tells you almost everything you need to know https://www.thestar.com/politics/political-opinion/mark-carney-and-pierre-poilievre-say-a-lot-about-themselves-with-their-choices-of-interviewers/article_e3382e48-d30d-11ef-8dd6-538eeaa8fa71.html

Territorial-elitist?
Wow, Canada. Please don't follow in our terrible footsteps.
Maple MAGA is just as misinformed and brainwashed as MAGA.
Comparing the two is just absurd.
Do you ever wonder why Canadian media is losing followers?
They touched on the most important topics.
Considering his resume, I think people know surprisingly little about him. I don't think talking policy was ever the point.
Guaranteed he is not afraid of anything they will ask or say.
I am sure he would welcome it.
Jon will ask anyone the tough questions when it is appropriate.
Carney hasn't officially announced yet so there weren't any tough questions to ask.
Digital media has allowed pols to bypass media. It's weakened accountability & democracy.

With his announcement that's when we'll see how he fares in actual interviews, with reporters who know what they're doing.
When Trump said he’ll win and people don’t even need to vote…wow! I cannot believe it was a fair election.
Might have an argument against if not for Biden in between.
IMO the choice was inspired - massive audience that will reach the targets on both /2
sides of border (🇺🇸s ARE a target audience given impending chaos/Trump threats); “introduce” himself in a non-trad forum to show his personality (funny!); show his bonafides (thanks JS!); and gin up chatter (well done!)
Inspired choice, IMO. He would NOT have achieved this w 🇨🇦 media.
Now back to my bubble before it bursts!
Poilievre is clear winner among leaders with digital media & speaking directly to his target supporters.

Plus Trudeau said it under oath. He would be subject to charges if they weren’t true.
It seems inevitable
I think it would be smart for Carney to go on his show.
Carney's a technocrat and a market liberal, both characteristics that have led the Liberal Party everywhere to ruin.
Which may not even be a bad thing!
Cops and corporations shouldn't be able to strong arm indigenous communities on their own land. So many echoes of our past still happen.
I won't mourn it either.
(tbd: love Jon Stewart for his wit, grace and intellegence; and I have respect for Carney and his accomplishments).
Your second statement is an assumption.
The point is: why don't we have a national show that "many liberal Canadians" watch?! Are we already conceding to be the 51st state?
Yes, it’s an assumption that “liberal Canadians” watch, but I think it’s a good assumption.
I agree we should have a national show like that. Most attempts is the past have failed.
Pretty sure he got a lot more coverage that way.

I watched both and Carney came out the clear winner if you're going to only use the metric of who they talked too.
Former BoC and BoE Governor vs. Guy who has never had a real job outside of being an MP.
Plus, they'll get all the play and more in Canada compared to interviewing on any Canadian station.
Affective presence. Q rating. Call it whatever, but the more many ppl see him, the more they'll be turned off
He leaves people feeling good. Positive affective presence. Likability. However we define the hard to define.
