OK, but where does the roast beef fit in? If it's anthropomorphic enough for that, surely pigs can go to Sainsbury's? Or is it a euphemism for something else..?

I was always under the impression that "went to market" wasn't shopping. The screams of the fifth little piggy, as it escaped its near death experience, all the way home haunted me for years. I knew it wouldn't be long before the fifth piggy was the first piggy again 😭
