Had to take someone to hospital yesterday (just a scare - all fine now) They told us it was a 4 hour wait to be seen but also that you’re not allowed to leave in case they can see you earlier - if you miss your slot you won’t get another chance. But also there was very limited waiting space.

Trials of appointments have been tried, but v difficult to make work.
Simple and effective efficiency gains are the answer (and yes, I know it is not easy)
Fully support a very strict "20 minutes' notice, be on time or back of line" policy to ensure this wasn't a negative.
I suspect that the system is so stretched at the moment that it's relying on people getting fed up and leaving to help with overall numbers
Surgeon was busy non stop so no, not the NHS‘s fault. Everyone was super nice.
Then waited in A&E for 30 hours straight, until a bed became available.
The corridor was named the annex on the whiteboard.
Staff spent half their time pushing beds into imaginary spaces when ambulances arrived. Getting a bed is near impossible, the hostility between depts is palpable due to pressure.
The staff were amazing, but they were triaging like it was a battlefield hospital, and it felt like it.
I’m 16 days in waiting for the bed I was waiting for and no chance they’ll call any time soon.
The pressure is making departments turn on each other for wanting sick people to get the help they need.
