Yep. The one Trump voter with whom I spoke at any length in 2016 said he did it just so he could irritate his liberal in-laws by copping to it. (Safe Hillary state.)
Yes! The MAGA sadism is expected from uneducated, gullibles programmed to feel grievances. Predictably, they want to strike back -- like toddlers told to behave. How can I be sure? My mother, my brother, my nephew.
I’ve been saying this since 2016, but there’s only one governing philosophy with these people, and it’s sticking their thumb in your eye. It’s why we can’t bipartisanship our way out of this. We have to electorally beat these people for a decade straight before they go back to hiding under a rock.
Cool. FAFO. And pay back may be more than expected. They baselessly thought the liberals hated them before…now they’ve given them more than ample reason.
WE are one body, one country. What hurts me, will hurt you. Fracturing this country by hate got us into this…but coming together to fight the fascist hate will get us out. TOGETHER.
Together we must reject fascism and embrace what made America great…WE, all the diverse people, living in democracy
Yes! I totally agree. Trump voters ignorance, contempt for others, and desire to “own the libs” has resulted in a stupendous self own. Unfortunately their lack of self-awareness will lead them to continue to blame someone else for their miserable lives.
In Moral Politics, George Lakoff explains that “family values” is code for strict father morality: reward, punishment, obedience. It’s a hierarchy—God at the top, then the father. People vote to obey their dominant father figure.
Trump voters blame others for their problems, particularly the government, minorities, the media — just like their leader they “take no responsibility.”
*UNTIL* His cars got set on fire! Then he claimed how mean and cruel his backlash was, and that "he thought dems were the party of empathy.", practically in tears. He wants to recieve it. He has no interest in giving it to others. He's just another self serving POS nazi. 😮💨
It's like we are in the stupidest timeline imagineable where our families fought world wars for nothing, and half the population didn't learn anything at all. 😮💨
Every few generations it seems this fight has to be fought. Maybe one day that will change
Until then it's time for us to live up to the standards of the greatest generation. They weren't exceptional; they refused to surrender. We will do no less.
Do any of them admit they never thought it would happen to them and they were fine with cruelty to others? It means that vindictiveness is a fuel to them and they can't be seen as "good people".
I was just thinking about this today. I’ve never sought to harm any person or group of people with my vote. Not once. No Republican who has ever voted can say that.

I still think about the woman in KY who was interviewed abt the GOP trying to overturn the ACA in the 1st term and how she was upset because she thought they would hurt the *right* people and taking away her healthcare was not that.
I would be mortified to know that people remembered me for that.
The lack of empathy, not to mention logic, amongst such a huge percentage of my fellow US Americans, disgusts me.
On both the immigration and economic fronts, anyone who has been paying attention to facts could not possibly be duped into supporting this fascist regime. Unless they're just evil.
Jess, I have known many individuals who revel in hurting other people. So your comment strikes home and makes me want to know more about your experiences: what did you experience in Trump voters that shows you they voted to cause someone pain?
This totally explains the response when Trumps actions hurts them saying “this isn’t what I voted for”. Then I say , “well what did you vote for?” And silence.. pretty clear they voted for the hurt , just not for themselves
"Own the Libs," that's what they wanted.
Now they want their jobs back, healthcare back and their 401K's not in the dumpster.
And I can't stop wanting to slap all 77 million of them across the face.
I think this is a fantastic reply when people try to explain away Trump votes by saying “well we all vote in our own self interest” besides the obvious response which is “NO”
All of the Trump voters I know fall into 1 of 2 camps:
1) They wanted to punish “illegals”, trans/nonbinary folks, and liberals.
2) They thought he’d make things cheaper and didn’t CARE that he was going to hurt/punish others, because they’re white and they thought it wouldn’t affect them.
By the time you factor in the old boomer guys, the balloon of gen-X dudes and the growing segment of young tech bros...it turns out you can safely generalize to "most white men."
I concur. Those I know were, without exception, angry. The focus of their anger varies - though the source of their anger is a constant: the right wing media.
It's all propaganda geared to keeping the base perpetually outraged. Outrage leads to fear & fear leads to anger.
Well they managed to punish almost the entirety of the US population and a good chunk of the world… again! (I’m holding them accountable for making covid worse than it should have been)
Do they understand that trump hates them just as much as he hates the folks they hate? If you aren't a billion or millionaire, he doesn't care about you.
Yup. They voted for the Leopards Eating Faces Party because they believed the leopards would ONLY eat the faces of the people they dislike. Unfortunately, it rarely works that way... as they may soon find out.
i know a lot of evangelical trump voters and they think hurting people who disagree with them is their biblical mandate (they also think it’s loving but you know all this already)
The way I look at it if someone votes for someone because that person has promised to screw over someone else when in office in reality that person is going to screw everyone over
in 2016 I knew many who had personally felt somehow maligned in their lives. They seemed to want an outlet for their deep seated anger at feeling they had been wronged. Two forces at work, one being retribution, the other, perhaps more dominant, looking for salvation, the path to a better life.
The better life positioning seems stronger with the R positioning this most recent election as compared to the Ds. This is America, we build things, we build better lives, we invest, we grow, we create opportunity. The story cannot just be about wealth redistribution and equity.
I would truly love to know what I ever supported or cared for that harmed them. Because I really feel I voted to support their lives. I may not have supported their belief, but their lives mattered, and they needed to manage their own beliefs in their own house.
And that's all I can say about that.
I’ve known some MAGAs, and no matter how much or how little they have, they don’t have enough and it is always somebody else’s fault. This is why those people must be punished.
Misery loves company.
Joy is the one thing they lack and cannot take from us.
That’s why peaceful protest is so powerful. A smile/laughter in the face of infuriating intolerance demonstrates their hatred can be stopped. With us.
They thought the economy would improve and that's a laugh. If that is why they voted but I think they have to have no empathy for others, hold racist points of view and a disregard for humanity
Yep, instead of going to therapy (there are apps on your phone now), they victimize all of us w their anti-social personality disorders and unresolved mental health issues.
Self-serving other-harming spite. They deliberately view the world as "US" and "the OTHER". "US can do no wrong, Others can do no good. Thus WE are fully justified in punishing or exploiting the Other as we please."
True, but they didn’t want to hurt themselves. It has often been said that Trump voters voted for Trump because he hates the same groups of people they hate. I absolutely agree with that sentiment.
All while claiming they were voting for cheaper eggs and gas prices, and wanting to "Drain the Swamp" Welp.. our eggs and gas prices haven't decreased and the swamp is filling up beyond its capacity.
I wonder if they have any regrets now.
Two separate motivations. I see more of the "punish" type voter. Some slight from yrs ago means they won't vote for the incumbent no matter how awful the opponent is. And these are smart people. But no they have to be able to say "You should have attended our HOA meeting. We'll show you."
I know only a couple. They're relatives.
😪
They don't want to hurt anyone.
But they're addicted to RW news sources & reject everything we've tried to discuss with, "Well, how do you know YOUR side isn't lying?"
There's 1 thing in common: they're both in construction & frustrated by endless regs.
it's also split up families including my own family where relatives on the opposite side of the political spectrum refuse to speak to each other. There are no other words to describe it other than we are engaged in a civil war for democracy or fascist oligarchy.
Curious, who do they want to punish? Most Trump voters I know blamed Biden for inflation, and illegal immigration. They wanted to punish Biden, and by extension - Democrats. Did you hear something different?
Liberals, people who don't conform to their way of life (can be very expansive, urban dwellers, blue haired baristas, gay people, trans people), Black & brown people for "taking things they don't deserve," people who've "failed" somehow, they have a substance use disorder, mental illness, are poor.
Don't forget non-subservient women. It is crude Calvinism: if you are not successful (and white and Christian and a a man), it is proof God does not favor you and thus you are bad and should be punished. Punishment may correct your failings or not. Either way, it is deserved and they should do it.
Collateral damage from all that hate, inequality & exclusion their saviour is throwing around? 🤷♀️
And aaw that’s a shock the old orange fuckup & his mega-wealthy backers didn’t consult you first up about how your shoe business would fare under his maga tariffs! #MazeDullRats
They are all so full of hate. I just can't rap my head around all of this hate. I have survived open-heart heart surgery and cancer, and I still don't have hatred inside of me.
And I’ll bet they call themselves Christians too. This has been one of the most awful things of this whole era-seeing how greedy, selfish, hateful, and frankly stupid many of our fellow citizens are
You should see what it's like on red note. It was so peaceful and friendly until they followed us there. They literally have to be where we are or else they just can't make it mentally!

Sociologically, their vote is the most powerful weapon they can (legally) wield, and it serves a satisfactory psychological outcome.
The fact that an immoral human being is the beneficiary is something many don't care about or much contemplate.
And say “but my taxes “

I mean, I know there are decades of hate on social media but..
It's not like the poor, blacks or gays took their money.
