god the whole thing is so good. Qiffrey you messed up boy, what are you up to. I love the girls, they are all depicted with such obvious love for girls growing up in a way ive never seen before.
I've really enjoyed the book for the most part, but I'm definitely not confident in its ideals yet-still plenty of time for it to pull the ol'Gundam "morally grey" schtick were all the terrible actions and societies are handwaved away because one guy had honor or a sad backstory or something.
I've only ever read the first chapter (it was part of FCBD many years ago), but I always got the vibe that the protagonist's journey of learning was a standard BBEG origin story, but in a world where everyone was wrong about what would happen to make them a danger to everyone.
it's got such smart, empathetic writing around both its characters and politics that i am constantly floored by. also the author posted in support of palestine, she's good
It’s just incredibly good in general. The whole point of the core premise is that it allows for a questioning of the nature and purpose of power. Can’t recommend it enough.
