name a band/artist that was popular from 1975-1980 (my high school years) and i will tell you my favorite music by them (as long as i know them of course, don't be purposefully obscure)

i have started an essay about squeezing out sparks, which is one of the greatest albums ever recorded. phenomenal songwriter, and this record in particular tears at you in a lot of ways
i was never a huge rush fan. i like them enough, like i won't turn them off if they pop up on a playlist, and i admire the sheer amount of talent in that band but they are very much a Not For Me band
i love them in high school. i went through a whole country rock phase, complete with floppy cowboy hat and a fringed denim vest. it was an ugly phase that thankfully only lasted less than a year, but "heard it in a love song" and "can't you see" were staples for a while
my father has always adored linda ronstadt, so growing up i heard her voice fairly often in my house and i was mesmerized every time. her voice to me feels like home
What a beautiful post. I hope you'll come join my linda fb group. It's called Linda Ronstadt Extraordinaire. You would be a nice addition to our group.
People don’t remember, but they were absolutely promoted as the next Beatles. It was embarrassing how much they were hyped. I’m not saying whether they were good or not. I’m just saying they were hyped up the wazoo.
I don't know about "Popular" per se but the Clash were definitely on my radar by 1978. London Calling was 1979 and very quickly became most of what I listened to after that for a long time.
Similar age here. Pink Floyd was a big thing. I differed from my friends a bit, driving around listening to Moody Blues or Al Stewart or Steve Miller along with the usual rock stuff.
I didn't get into Floyd until 1981 courtesy a college friend, esp Syd Barrett. I didn't dislike them but I just didn't really connect with them. One of the two US Wall shows were held near my house my senior year so that was a huge deal. I was already much more punk rock so wasn't really listening.
I wasn't a stoner in HS. In college my boyfriend was, and I stopped being completely straight. I actually like Wish You Were Here and Animals over Dark Side, and really love the early Syd Barrett stuff since early UK psychedelia is one of my things. Plus Syd's solo stuff. His story is heartbreaking.
I liked them, though I came to them later through used records. Thus, I’m always interested in what people see as their best album or definitive songs, etc.
one of my favorite bands and an incredible live act. my favorite song is of course up the junction, my favorite album is cool for cats. no one does it like difford and tilbrook
I think early MTB holds up surprisingly well. The Outlaws get kinda tired after that first album. Although if memory serves, Hurry Sundown was good too.
