I keep watching this clip with something approaching yearning and I’m realizing it’s because we don’t hear this level of strategic realism—that the old world is gone and the old rules don’t apply—from anyone in leadership in the Democratic Party.

Carney: "The old relationship we had with the United States based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation is over."

The US has pugilistic buffoons believing they pwn opponents ("enemies") and will always have the upped hand while someone but not the American people.
No, really, who are they serving?
We approve.

I’ve been waiting for European leaders to get to this same realization.
Many many people need to start sounding more like Mark Carney
I’m so glad to see Carney say what’s happening clearly.
I hope he can outmaneuver us in the trade war, and I hope we can restrain Trump from his more imperial ambitions
If Canada and Europe defend themselves well in a trade war, it could be economically catastrophic for us
The problem is much bigger than 200k voters in swing states.
It sounds like he says, "who some met shing"
Can someone clarify please?
Nous sommes maîtres chez nous.
I don’t think that they realize that if he wins the election, it might be one of the most important speeches in Canadian history

But not sure receives even Carney level support.
Simply acknowledging that they need to fight the GOP, instead of knuckling under, would go a long way in this crisis.
That alone should be proof that we are in a new, weird, yet unified place

Him hoping "gop will come back to work with them" alone shows he's very out of touch. He needs to step down for someone that at the very least has the right energy.
Anyway, well said!
I know the point is to scare us into silence. But large peaceful protest isn't the way to achieve change in the US, just to rile up the MAGAts when we need them to snap out of the cult.
The question is what comes after, that works?
Keep in mind as well that even when Biden was in power they still cracked down on protestors and let the police brutalize them.
If people are doing something they likely won’t announce it until they are already there to keep themselves and other protestors safe.
The US is in “don’t speak on a tapped line” mode.
When people show up it's been consistent set of boos and shouting for people to do their job.
Either way organizing takes time and there is supposed to be a big push in April.
Those days are far gone. The Republican party is now MAGA. Chuck Schumer and his people are not equipped for the task.
Which is turning out *exactly* like anyone with more then two IQ points to rub together predicted.
He’s not had time to get his values compromised by consultants and hacks.
Take your time, I'll wait.
People are thirsty for leadership in the U.S. and there's SUCH a vacuum.
I think the courage of Canadians in meeting the moment has given (some of) our politicians the courage to speak honestly about it.
But I think there's a truth here that the response of Canadians has given first JT and now Carney additional conviction in meeting this moment, because it feels like we're meeting it together.
Like I've said, when the fighting back starts, those two better stay out of the way.
who now accepts the USA can never be trusted again

Ignoring the texts, back in the gym, eating healthy and taking care of ourselves.
Working on a 'revenge economy' if you will lol
Nope. I am done with a party that ties a fkn boat anchor to my kids future.
🇨🇦 We, the American people love you & we are so sorry. 🍁
Just Do.
'N Elephant shoe, too.
Government is given power to DO THINGS. If they won't, people will turn to yahoos with empty promises.
American democracy is dead.
What’s missing is higher level coordination and courage and I think that’s going to require a coordinated primarying effort.
I love it.
The SS is here, the opposition Congress isn't objecting to much at all, unless it's protests being too rowdy, the courts are trying ... we're used to mass gatherings working well. What's Plan B?
