He needed editing because of those vanities. I recall the original draft had him both blaming the King for the institution of slavery, and for trying to get the slaves to rise up and seek their freedom, and Adams and Franklin did the, for cryin' out loud Tom, pick a lane, bit.
I had occasion to remember his architectural works (I lived near them for decades). I have to say that he was a gifted and experienced architect, effectively collaborating with his builders and with other designers (Latrobe, Thornton), was a critic and mentor (Mills), too. He wasn't a dilettante.
I'm an architect who works in historic preservation and I have an architectural history degree as well. I'm near the end of my career and I can better assess his skills now and, yeah, I have my list of his sins, but he designed what might be the greatest work of architecture by an American.
And a few excellent minor works along with Monticello, of course, which is really two houses, one done before he went to France, the other (the one we see today) after. He was knowledgeable, well-read in architectural literature, and had good design judgement. He would be famous for that work alone.
I should mention, that ex, he also murdered my father, and got away with it, because the prosecution fucked the case up so badly. So yes, I like my guns, I doubt I'll ever stop sleeping with one by my bedside. (I do have a neat drawer under my bedstand that opens with your handprint and slides out).

Well, you can trace a lot of the Constitution to the Declaration. I told my students that the Constitution is a combination of Lockean political philosophy with item that the colonists disliked about the royal government.

Stop being alarmist when you've forgotten your civics lessons. You can pass a budget with a simple majority and through reconciliation, you can't pass any substantial legislation that way.
They can't pass legislation that "guts the legislative and judicial branches" without more than a simple majority, which they don't have. They would need more votes than they have in either the House or the Senate. I didn't know the number offhand for the House, but they'd need 60 in the Senate.
