I'm a qualified accountant, but I retired from that to become an opera singer. If it makes you feel any better, the earliest I've ever submitted my tax return in 30+ years was 2 days before the deadline. And that was this year. Mostly I do it with an hour or two to go.

I used to run a B & B and I had to split grocery bills from domestic use and business use when it came to submit the info to my accountant I could have buried my head in the sand. Ball ache is an accurate description. Good luck. Xxx

Then your accountant will call the HMRC helplines to get help to fill in the necessary tax returns etc. Trust me I worked on those helplines. Honestly some people would be better doing it all themselves using the helpline.

I feel your pain - I’m on my 2nd day of annual leave that I took purely to do paperwork. So far it’s 50% procrastination and 50% trying to convince people I am who I say I am (unwise name changes) whilst shuffling paper. Oh & I did manage to book cat in to vets.. go me.

Careful.
My wife is actually an accountant.
I believe she's OCD.
Else how would she get so much pleasure putting bags of receipts/scans in order.
To produce a nice neat set of accounts?
She loves it.
It's like watching someone complete a jigsaw.
Then patiently explain to the client how to do better!

Reece, sorry I'm late to this conversation. If you ask HMRC they will send out their simplified accounts return. They will only ask 1 question.

1. How much have you earned

They will expect it all to be transferred into their bank account within a week.
