Hiking behind short people was the worst mistake of my life. They would walk under all the spiderwebs so I would think it was all clear and get a face full of spider web.
Awesome advice! I prefer the stick v. spiders all over my face, hiking boots, knees, hands, butt (you know, a twist & fall)!
Same thing with ants! Another small insect living in groups underground! In my garden! And like to swarm all over me! When I’m weeding! I’ll use a smaller stick though ;-)!
I already do this. I call my stick my Cool Spider Collector. Together we journey to the end of the trail, or to the top of my sleeve, whichever mood they're in.
It’s usually my face and it never turns out well 🤢🕷️🕸️ I feel bad that I destroyed the spider’s hard work, but I’m freaked out because I have the web all over my face and not sure of the spider’s location 😳
I heard that American National Forest trails are full of skinwalkers, Saskwaches, UFO anal probe doodads, racist cannibal hillbillies and serial killers.
Yeah. Learned that being 5’11” and hiking in the Naval Live Oaks park in FL earned me intimate, up-close knowledge of the beautiful (and large) banana spider! Also learned they purposely make their webs to match the sunlight tone. 😳
I feel like you missed an opportunity for some educational content about not having your friend go first, so they can use their face, even if you think the friendship has run its course…

The men are really showing why the bear gets cuddles.

What to do....?
Never be the first person on the trail in the morning.

*walks in the trail stick first*
I now have serious "Bob the Drag Queen Hiking" vignettes in my head and am NOT mad about it
I do apologize to the spiders but calm my guilt by assuming it could have been done by a deer or sasquatch or something.
