Gen X - 15 years, Gen Y - 15 years, Gen Z - 12 years, Gen Alpha - 13 years, it doesn't add up, there's no significant change to make Z and Alpha shorter, especially when people ignore that Xenials should be Gen Y.
We Gen X’ers maybe didn’t have the economic advantage of the boomers but we were children in the 70s and 80s and we had the 90s for our music. I wouldn’t swap that for the world.
Sounds like the old joke about the British doing the policing, the Germans the trains, the French the food, the Italians the lovemaking in heaven, in hell the British do the food the Italians the trains…
Being born in 1944 I'm too old to be a Boomer and feel too vocal to consider being part of the Silent Generation. I have suggested that those of us in between be called the "Daddy's Home on Leave" generation. 😉
Children born in 2025 will also be the first who are expected to live to see the twenty-first century....
Hmm... Is this a joke?
Aren't we living in the 21st century...and least most of us?
They’re really not going to let up on the letters? GenX wasn’t GenX because GenW came before - it was a name with a purpose. Naming everything after with a letter is just lazy!
The article makes a silky mistake - we are all living in the twenty-first century, Gen B is likely to live into the twenty-second century.
Gen A is too, if born in Europe.
Hrm, I'm really not so sure about defining generations before the history that ostensibly shapes them has even happened. Who's to say where the difference can really be marked.
I don't even know why people bother with these labels anyway, I grew up perfectly well not knowing I was considered a "millennial" 'til the internet told me so, labelling people is just as backward as slurs...
Might be a joke but every purchase I make seems like I'm paying full price to be part of a beta test, the shoddy crap needs to stop and companies need to start making things for consumers not shareholders and ceo's pockets, so as apt as it fits the generation the old guard are exploiting it too
Ok. People have children, often from 20 to 30 years old. People who fought in WWII have markedly different behavior from Korean War people. So there are two lines of culture running from them, boomers and slackers. Boomer kids are X, slacker kids are millennials. X’s kids are Gen Z millenials, Alpha
Gen Z are at childbearing age, so the world’s smallest new generation is Gen Beta. If you don’t like it, forget understanding biology or culture.
My parents were WWII generation but all of my peers were slackers. Not boomers. So I grew up in slacker culture. It’s simple 10 year cycles from 1945 on
Damn babies, they aren’t even dying in the mines yet! Fucking losers who don’t want to work!!! Nobody wants to work any more! It’s all goo goo this or gah gah that. Jeez.
i think they are decided by major cultural and technological shifts, which have been happening much faster, and if you have noticed they have already gotten significantly shorter since like the greatest generation (oldest I know the name of, I think they are defined by ww2?)
what seems wrong about it? if the lived experiences of people born one year is extremely different from people the year after, and they cannot relate on common cultural touchstones, then they won't fit into the same made up concept of a generation as the other.
They don’t really have defined lengths of time, but more identifying a pattern or change in environmental socialization that would impact underlying values and worldview. If they’re calling an end date already this is probably going to get bundled with another generation like Y an Millennial.
Post-911 and Post-covid seem biggest demarcation markers historically speaking. Anyone born after 2020 will have vastly different experience to those 2000-2019, and those born between 1980-2000.
Always remember - the preceding generations create those who follow. Boomers who bemoan the fact that kids can’t ‘drink from a hose’ or have to wear bike helmets forget they’re the ones who passed helmet laws and thought it would be a good idea to use water as a plastic delivery device.
lol love that final statement, just wanted to point out though it’s not just plastic that makes drinking from a hose bad, it’s all the fucking lead lmao. So. Much. Lead.
Outdoor spigots and lines are often not “drinking water safe” nor do they have to be, so all the brass fittings and solder, lead!
Yeah. I, for one, hate being lumped in with the Boomers because those born in the early '60s did not get the same kind of world those born in the '40s and '50s did. If I'm a member of any generation, it's Jones.
Kind of agree. I was born in 1963 which technically makes me a Boomer, but have absolutely nothing in common with people born in the late 40s-early 50s.
56-64 ARE NOT BOOMERS. They are Generation Jones, aka the boomlet. Whoever told you 63 and 64 are boomers doesn’t understand that a generation is 10 years. 10 years from 1945 is not 1965!!!
You mean you want us to forget about the 35 trillion dollar subsidy ONE generation took over their lifetime that every generation will now pay the interest on for the rest of their lives?
Only the Boomers have the wealth to be able to pay off the debt they took. Except they accept zero responsibility for it so it will never happen until they do.
If you are looking for some single entity named Boomer that owes you money, go for it. But if you want a pound of flesh from an abstract concept I don't know what to tell you
Boomers have 70 trillion in savings and 35 trillion in unpaid taxes, these aren't hard concepts to solving the debt problem. We just have to get the people responsible for it to WANT to fix the problem they caused.
It is flat out asinine to label groups of people based on some portion or events of our society. The evolution of humanoids is fluid. Just stop with the nonsense.

My kids are both Gen-Z, one in middle-school and the other in highschool, and there are now TWO generations after theirs?!
Who is having kids that fast?
I thought that's what we were living in.
Although sometimes it is indeed hard to see.
Hmm... Is this a joke?

Just who is in charge of that so I can complain?
What?!
1, 18, 30, it's all made up anyway
D-Generation was released way too early.

Let's normalize embracing the new generation. They are going to need it growing up in Trump's America.
