I've only seen him in about 4 movies, Red Tails being the only major role. Read his bio & he seems like gutter trash with issues toward women in his 4 marriages & assaulting an airline stewardess which landed him in jail. Maybe he should try kissing men, might find what's missing in his life.
It doesn’t make you homophobic to not want to kiss someone of the same sex even if it’s acting. There are some opposite sex folks I wouldn’t kiss. Terrance Howard is a good actor, had a lot of good roles and I applaud him and his choice.
These actors who refuse gay roles demonstrate that they are among those who consider this sexual orientation deviant and thus demonstrate their narrow-mindedness and pettiness. Howard can only be a supporter of Trump and his people.
No Terrence it's not homophobic because you're not comfortable kissing a man. It's homophobic because you're so threatened that anyone might mistake you for gay you have to demonstrate how violently revolting the idea seems to you. You wouldn't stone the gay guy, you would hand the other guy the rock
1. He’s always been a jerk. This just confirms it.
2. He was never a good actor.
3. He’s crazy. Pseudoscientific.
4. He’s probably closeted.
5. If he was a real actor, he would kiss a man, because that would be acting.
With the right script, playing Marvin Gaye could be the role of a lifetime. And you turned that down bc you'd have to maybe kiss a dude? The fucks wrong with you
I mean...as an actor it shouldn't be too difficult to pretend to be someone else. But he's comfortable playing bad guys that beat up women because he can identify himself with that? 🤔 Nah...Terrence is a big fat homophobe. I was happy they replaced him with Don Cheadle, he sucks even more now.
I can't think of anything he's been in since Iron Man. Seems that was the peak of his career. If I remember right he only got that job in the first place because he was a big name who would draw in the crowds, as a buffer from RDJ's past problems that he was trying to recover from.
Ironman?? He’s been in a number of Things since 2007, including Winnie Mandela, Red Tails, The Butler, Best Man Holiday, Prisoners, and Fight Night. And of course Empire. You may not be a fan, but he’s a good actor, consistently working.
Nah, literally just yesterday I was just thinking about the flashback scene in Empire, in which he flipped out and put the toddler in the trash can outside bc he was walking in mama's heels. It struck me instantly that he was *not acting* for the scenes in which his character was extremely anti-gay.
It mystifies me that anyone thinks he's a good actor. He is so wooden in every role I've ever seen him in and frequently looks like he's reading from cue cards or having someone whisper lines in his earpiece. I couldn't care less about anything he says, he's a hack.
If a guy feels disgust having to kiss another man himself, does that make him homophobic in how he socially treats gay people? I honestly don't know. 🤷🏻♀️ His wording about the kissing was too strong though. Unnecessary.
“It does not make me homophobic to not want to kiss a man.”
I think that's true. I'm straight and don't want to kiss a man.
Choosing to say he'd cut his lips off is what does it. No different than men who don't get colonoscopies or prostate exams or even use toilet paper because it's too gay.
October London should play Marvin Gaye or at least the vocals. Close your eyes & listen to the brother sing and tell me it’s not Marvin Gaye. For Terrance Howard don’t care how he feels! He’s got demons of his own!
If he had not gone so deep (sorry) into his reasons, the fact he felt uncomfortable kissing a man would in itself not be an issue (or as big an issue). Anyone, actor or others, should not be forced into any intimate situation in which they feel uncomfortable. Just don't continue digging.
Empire was his longest running TV series but He’s got an extensive movie career including Best Man, Best Man Holiday, Prisoners, Crash, Red Tails, Hustle & Flow, The Butler and many others.
He was Oscar nominated for Hustle& Flow. Lots of deserving Black actors aren’t acknowledged for their work with an Oscar so for me it’s the NAACP award that really counts. He got a SAG award three or four NAACP award, critics choice and more.
Okay, so You’re not a fan. You’re the one who asked about Oscars. I replied and now you want an argument. Well,That’s your opinion and it does nothing to change my opinion. You could have kept that to yourself.
One can have homosexual friends without wanting to kiss one, and that is not homophobic, it's doing what you want for who you are, and he is not homosexual, so he chose not to kiss someone of the same sex. He didn't hurt anyone by turning down the role.
That’s the true literal definition of homophobia. It’s not thinking you’re better than gay people or that they’re doing something morally wrong. It’s like true fear, that you’d rather die than be gay, even a lot of gay people kill themselves when forcibly outed.
How is he learning this recently? I kinda feel like Grace telling Jack, "My dog knew." It's sort of like the White House being in Washington. It's not news.
It just goes to show the true artistic power so many of us Queer folk have as we've been forced to act convincingly straight most of our lives for our own safety
Indeed, Master Takei. One would think an actor’s charge is to embody lives unlike their own—not retreat from them in fear. Terrence hath confused performance with confession, and in doing so, betrayed the very craft he claims to serve.
Was Marvin Gaye a closeted gay or bisexual? (or anything in-between) Because "dating women and also men" leaves both possibilities open.
Anyway, quite extreme reaction. If you're a good actor, you play the role. If they'd always have to like it, we'd need assassins to play the role of assassins.
Didn't he say he'd cut off his lips if forced to kiss another man? I mean there's a difference between not choosing a role because you don't feel comfortable with it or other reasons, but just say you didn't feel you could do the part the justice it needed instead of being homophobic
He must not be much of an actor if he can’t play something he is not. And what a waste of an opportunity! Only one of the best musicians ever. I don’t think I will ever understand people.
Never read it in a screenplay, was not asked to do so, didn’t discuss using a body double or holding hands and lying together in bed… vs kissing, but he made the leap to self mutilation with speed & certainty.
That reaction is more consistent with repression vs the obvious homophobia.
I'm amazed at the number of artists willing to roll the dice to tank their career by admitting their bigotry out loud.
PEOPLE LISTEN.
THEN HOPEFULLY REACT ACCORDINGLY.
Know what would have been an easy answer and one that could have been completely safe to make?
“I’d like to leave the roles of gay men to gay men. They are few and far between in Hollywood, and I think some deserving man should get the chance to play this icon.”
Probably a better answer. However, not ideal. Actors of all sexualities should be given equal opportunities. If we have only gay actors portraying gay roles and only het actors portraying het roles, isn't that a form of segregation?
I don’t think that’s even necessary. I think that gay actors should be given first shots at gay characters in general, but I don’t think that needs to go both ways. Everyone understands straight stories. There are a million of them. You could cast a woman as a man and it wouldn’t change the story.
You can’t reverse that. A minority experience isn’t as well understood. Gay actors in straight roles are already common, and I don’t really see any reason they shouldn’t be; it’s not hurting straight peoples’ chances in Hollywood to lose a dozen roles out of a thousand. The reverse isn’t true.
I see your point and its merits. However, the risk is to create a false assumption that a gay actor is better suited for a gay role for the simple fact of "gay".
Eh, I suspect this whole thing has been already discussed countless times by more well-versed people than me 😅
First shot doesn’t even mean getting the role necessary. In general they should be given first thought and opportunity, but if someone else turns out to fill the role better, great.
That’s your feelings, his are different. I sure there are a lot of straight men that feel the same. Just like I’m sure there are some members of the LGBTQ+ community that have the same aversion.
Honestly I thought Terrance Howard was gay. With that interview I raise my belief he is a closeted gay man who hides behind his public morals and to cover the trail he replaces acceptance with hate. Like Lindsey Graham, like Tim Scott, or Michele Bachmann’s husband.
In the current political climate he is probably nervous of what it would do to his career. What about Idris Elba? He is British and would not be bothered by the same backlash.
Look, if he was uncomfortable with the idea of having to portray same-sex relations that's fine. He could've just said that. Its the whole he'd need to "cut his lips off" that is the problem.
If he is he doesn't cooperate with treatment and that makes him contemptible. He's also a notorious diva which makes me think it's more of a personality issue.
All while donning grandma’s macrame. 🤔 Terry’s confused, I think his is one big closet. He need to walk himself out, and share all that gayness with us. I am sure he’d make an even better actor if he wouldn’t have to hold back.
This guys has a lot of odd things about him. Ask any woman he has been with. He likes to control bathroom habits of his woman etc. He is not one of the good guys🌬️
Good thing that Marvel replaced him with Don Cheadle as James Rhodes, otherwise they'd probably be looking at another Jonathan Majors situation right about now. Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say.
Right? Like, I couldn't kiss ANYONE for a role, but I *don't like kissing at all.*
If Terence thinks "gay kiss" makes his lips tainted, that's just messed up. It reeks of the kind of people who think HIV is a form of "gay cooties" you can catch on contact.
He's always been a jerk, from what I've heard. He walked away from Iron Man II because Robert Downey Jr (the literal STAR of the movie!) was being paid more than he would have been. It worked out though, Don Cheadle was much better as Rhodey.
Definitely puts a damper on anything I might have wanted to watch with TH in it. I don’t get it. What is the fear? You’re an actor. Act. Kissing someone of the same sex doesn’t make you gay. If it did, everyone would be fabulous.
Sorry, I can't believe he would say that given the outfits he's wearing. Sounds like he might be afraid to find something out about himself that he'd rather not.
& am I the only one who notices all his "shape art " is nothing but 3D generated vs. of spyrograph drawings every kid from early 70's grew up creating with multi colored pens
I think he takes the 'brown acid ' as a daily supplement

Oh, wait…
🤣
We need to pay 0.00% attention to people like him.
They spread their insanity like a virus

Dude thinks arithmetic is wrong.
Dudes too dumb for Joe Rogan.
Possibly dumber than POTUS
Fk them.

That guy is nuttier than squirrel shit.

Love his music and what he stood for. This is just another thing to appreciate.
That reaction is more consistent with repression vs the obvious homophobia.

"THE OLE COVENTRY TREATMENT WORKS GREAT!"
He gave a paper to Neil Degrasse Tyson and asked him to review it. He did. It did not go well…

Also, I’m sure there have been plenty of actresses that didn’t like him but still managed to fake it when doing an on camera kiss with him.
“I’d like to leave the roles of gay men to gay men. They are few and far between in Hollywood, and I think some deserving man should get the chance to play this icon.”
This was just homophobia on display
Eh, I suspect this whole thing has been already discussed countless times by more well-versed people than me 😅
You don’t need to over-explain it though.
He keeps showing his crazy.
Somebody better will play the role and probably get an award.

And hey….
Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor didn’t mind sharing an onscreen kiss

Is he still hawking his Terry Math , claiming musical notes can conjure up hard elements out of thin air
Wow Terry 😍
