Once Trump totally crashes the economy and millions are unemployed, republicans will get their wish of "more people at home." If a cardboard box can be considered a home.
I think, when they use the word, 'parents,' they are specifically talking about women. Nobody is asking men to stay home for the good of the family, country, etc.
It does get to, by paragraph 90851, "Conservative advocates and politicians, when discussing the issue, generally do not specify which parent could choose to stay home with the children. But,,, and some advocates are open about the fact that they see benefits to a mother filling that role."
Also this: "Conservative politicians and advocates say that they are not pushing moms out of the work force, but rather giving them the choice to step back from work if they want to." They say that and then go for forced pregnancy and rebuilding all the biases in favor of men in the workforce....
And this: “I think it is bogus,” said Representative Rosa DeLauro, a Connecticut Democrat who has long worked on child tax credit legislation. “You want to help families? How about paid family and medical leave?”
They lied like dogs about Project 2025 and it worked because the dummies are so dumb so why break from a winning formula. I mean fuck journalistic integrity- fuck patriotism- let’s lie to disenfranchise half the electorate.
I see more men than women staying home drinking beer, watching tv and griping about how tough it is while the womenfolk are out working 3 jobs a day so I guess it's for men to opt out of work to take care of babies right?
How about fixing the worst maternal death rate in the developed world? We'll give you $5K *and* the chance to die in childbirth like your great-grandmother!
And then you're on your own with the hospital bill (hope you don't need NICU) and the enormous expense of raising a human from birth to adulthood over decades.
I'm so glad I don't read the NYT anymore. My BP could not tolerate it. OTOH, I'm so angry that they are still seen as a premier news source w this trash
An exciting combination of the two, I'd say, but they hew to an idea of objectivity/impartiality that means taking the right at face value and going easy on all things Trumpy. So far as I can tell.
It’s always been about women in workplace, some of them with power. It’s about women as 2nd class citizens. It’s about putting women in what they deem “in their place”, so they don’t have the freedom to leave abusive marriages.
I could go on…
Barefoot & pregnant because one can’t afford shoes. A table surrounded by children without enough food or maybe no table, no roof. A education system that provides no way out & up. That’ll make America great.
They are always making life impossible for people, and harming children, and then telling the public ‘maybe you’ll figure it out in a way that first our religious value system.’ They forgot they did this to teens with sex ed, and we watched teens develop their own views (which they hate).
Project 2025 was quite clear about wanting women back in the home, and Marisa Kabas wrote a great article for Mother's Day about how outrageously difficult DOGE's chaotic destruction has made life for federal employees who are parents https://www.thehandbasket.co/p/moms-federal-government-trump-return-to-office
Oh cool, yeah, let's dig American families even deeper under the poverty line until dad strokes out on the job from overworking himself, and mom starts taking her frustrations out on the kids. I'm sure the next generation of Americans will be very mentally healthy. 🙂👍
“Backing policies” that will help adults scale back at work sure is a weird way to say backing policies that will cut any semblance of a safety net while still allowing people to be paid poverty wages
There will be plenty of parents at home soon. Trumps economy will start producing unemployment like no one has ever seen (or at least not since the Great Depression)
Really wish news media outlets would stop trying to make Republican look better than they are.
Conservatives don't give a fuck if you are worked to death. They just want more trickle up economics.
I don't care why they write this nonsense. The fact that they write it makes them fascist propagandists. It's just like, regardless of what your job title is, if you're running the Fry-o-lator at McD's, you're a fry cook. We can call it now: NYT - done.
Then Republicans would need to reverse course and not favor business over labor. For most of us, a one-income family hasn't been possible since the 1960s or 70s.
So Republican women say let men rule!
Return to the home and baby drool!
Then MTG, Palin and Boebert can head home too!
Make more babies that’s what Republican women do!
Hey here is $5000 to help you get inseminated!
You will need it to pay him for getting mated!
I suspect is is a method of distracting us from real causes of social harm—to dump a slurry of bullshit into public discourse—anti-trans, anti-feminist, racist, anti-youth, attacks on freedom pretend to defend freedom—then watch us fight. Demographic shift is global. Nothing like this even matters.
With what money? People can barely afford to put food on the table and Republicans will make it even worse. These idiots need to be countered in every way.
It’s a travesty that women who work to raise kids don’t automatically build equity in social programs. The work has been added and costed, and years ago it was worth $150K/yr.
Yet these women who worked in the home don’t build social program equity, even in Canada? Why? The disabled don’t? Why? Disability is WORK. Abled people don’t believe it but managing disabilities is often more than full time work.
What policy? Deprive care, resulting in forced home care? Draconian! And it is based on an optimistic fantasy that bad economic conditions will permit more babies? I suppose prohibiting abortions AND BIRTH CONTROL will eventually get there, but not more successfully than healthy economic conditions!
Just another way to disappear women/mother within the label “parent”, in the same way it’s been done for millennia with the term "man" subsuming "woman" and making the word represent all of humanity.
Yeah, I missed the policy where they raised wages so a single parent can work and sustain a family. Oh, and passed rent control, affordable housing measures, and universal basic income and universal, single payer affordable healthcare.
This headline sickens me. OF COURSE it’s women. The headline makes it sound like they want to do everyone an (IMPOSSIBLE) favor. They want women at home, with no voting rights.
Framing abortion as about the child, not about trapping a domestic servant if you can get her pregnant. More obedient if she’s Isolated from peers in the home. Less confident if no external achievements. Forced sterilization of unwed multiparous mothers legal until early 70s US & UK. Morally corrupt
As if a lot of families aren’t struggling as they’re forced to decide between having a parent stay home and lose their income and experience or put the baby in daycare that costs almost as much as that income
Just like the article on May 1st: "The New Culture of the Right: Vital, Masculine, Intentionally Offensive" - ok great, so we can all be like that or just white men? Oh.
Because billionaires think working from home means you can't possibly be working, and they certainly don't believe women are capable of doing more than one thing.
So they can blame them for being lazy stay-at-home moms while Dads work three jobs to feed the family. And single moms who lost a spouse will never get the financial aid needed to raise her children. These people are disgraceful.
Ok they can forgive my student loans if they want me having kids, because I pay $2000 a month now that there are no IDR payment plans, so I can't afford kids. Sorry bro
How in the HELL will we have more parents at home when the value of the dollar is in the toilet and getting worse? At the current rate, we'll have our kids working full-time, as well, just to pay bills....only the RICH will survive
I stepped back, as did a lot of other moms I know. What they're not saying is that home care demands don't end with kindergarten, and it's nearly impossible to find part-time work during school hours. Society has missed out on our expertise and leadership and I rely on my spouse to cover the bills.
Because their spouse can work a minimum wage job and they can live in a tent beside the freeway with their 10 offspring. Ain't Trump and Nutlick great!?
Yeah, the word “parent” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here.
Notice how DEI is bad, except when they want to trick the public into thinking their anti-woman agenda isn’t directed solely at women. Then it’s “parents” who should have more babies, be stuck in the house & give up on their 💸 careers.
Seems pretty certain that cutting childcare programs will not "allow" a parent to stay home, it will FORCE a parent to stay home...and very likely the mother, which is the clear intent. And of course the worst impacts will be on low-income families and single moms who benefit most from the programs.
It's not that difficult to do, just raise the minimum wage so that one of the parents can afford to stay home rather than both having to work and pay a small fortune for child care.

They seem amenable to bringing child labor back...
When people need two and three “side hustles” (jobs) to pay the rent and other bills?
Are working people suddenly going to get massive raises?

Somewhere, we went off the rails for this to even be considered desirable by so many stupid Americans. Taliban shit.

They are just innocent and forgetful.
Show some understanding.
