This book has everything. Corrupt/misguided media institutions! Lowest-bidder security systems! Hot autistic girls working in the news when not dressing as Emma Frost! Acknowledgment of the difference between ASL and ESE!
Buy the book, read the book, enjoy the book, help me greenlight a sequel (and someday, maybe a movie). (Who wants to see Jason in the elevator on the big screen?)
One of my faves! First read when the granddaughter was in a mermaid phase and the shock I got seeing her happily waving around her mermaid dolls - like Baby! No! They’re trying to trick you! Gagh!!!
I've got a copy of that waiting for me, and someone just recommended it the other day when we were discussing Newsflesh (which they were about to get into).
both these books are blindingly terrifying! they're the absolute best! My BFF @alienlovesong.bsky.social and I read them and now whenever we want to scare each other, we text mermaid emojis 🧜🏽♀️ I love the books sooooo much 😱 🧜🏽♀️ 📚

And, of course, mermaids.
And I still want more Indexing but publishers.....
This book has the BEST sense of gathering dread in the first half.
(And I'm not even a marine biologist, just a critter spotting scuba diver)
Thank you, Outer Wilds and Diluvion
I know it will not likely happen, but I so wish there was a sequel.
