Today I administered first aid to someone who collapsed in Costa and I asked them for a cup of tea while I waited for the ambulance to arrive and they CHARGED me for it lmao

Oh and get this, they collapsed on top of the table of this man who just watched them blankly and did not do anything, and!!! He was there reading a book on Buddhism studies. I was like mate. MAAAAATE
He is coming back as a worm. Would you still love me if i were a worm? he will ask his girlfriend tonight. And she will quite rightfully say no. No I would not love you.
I once stopped to call an ambulance for a man who collapsed at a bus station. The 999 call centre woman was incredibly unhelpful, didn't know why I didn't know the postcode of the bus stn or why I, getting a bus, couldn't drive him. Anyway, there were ppl literally stepping over me & another lady
I had the same thing a few years ago when I had to call an ambulance for someone. Sorry, no, I don't know the postcode, I've never had to write to Sheffield railway station
Yeah, I've had it before when I've been like: i am literally passing by and will be continuing on my way but need to phone this in, and they wouldn't understand that taking my number would be useless as I was not going to be remaining on site.
It didn't help that the large crowd at that point just kept shouting 'Canterbury bus station' at me as I was trying to find road names. Yes folks I am aware of that, for some reason the woman in the office cannot Google it.
Me too! No, I don’t know the post code of Ilford railway station but it’s huge and on Cranbrook Road which is also huge and there’s a guy with blood pouring down his face and a lot of drunk violent men about!
Geeze. My mom collapsed in a fabric store during their closing out sale, and not only were they super helpful getting her space and some water, but they held our *uncut* bolts of fabric until the next day because we hadn't had a chance to say how much of each we wanted.
I was once shopping in Asda &
they asked over the tannoy if there was a doctor in store could they go to customer services,
I got there & staff were stood around a person on the floor,
I gave CPR including mouth-to-mouth for >15 minutes until the ambulance came,
I asked for WATER & they charged me 🙄
I work for a retailer, and there has to be a first aider in at all times, but they’re not obliged to assist members of the public, only staff. Even so, being charged for a cup of tea is some bull.
That is very interesting that isn't policy to assist the public - I suppose to avoid corporate accountability, but, ew. Not that anyone HAS to do anything, ever, of course.
Well, technically as a first aider you’re not compelled to do anything. So you can’t be required to assist retail customers. But I was never told not to assist members of the public, so it’s not policy (at least where I work).
Of course I don’t mind doing it,
I would help anyone,
I just wanted my mouth not to contain a complete stranger’s bodily fluids 🫤 - didn’t expect to pay for a bottle of water
(Yeah large store but everyone seemed to have panicked.I also felt panic since I was with my newborn baby not at work!)
Cracking effort on sorting the patient and waiting for the crew. Shame about Costa but they should have someone trained in first aid in every workplace
