Between that and the game very clearly taking place after all the Country games, I think it’s safe to say you’re meant to be noticing the contradictions if you’re paying attention.

And there were people online completely unironically saying “Super Nintendo Switch” would’ve been a more effective name.

Especially in an era where everything’s focusing on nostalgia and trying to “recapture” old things, I’ve thought a lot about the difference between “being like” something and actually “doing what it did”.

I think most people know. The idea is that the game’s downloaded, but the license is on the card. The tradeoff is meant to be that you can still sell/buy used/lend them out like physical games.

Even on PS4 it was more than 64gb, so even if every other Square game wasn’t going to be a game-key I’d still expect it.

And for a game that pretty clearly has lower production values than the last $40 racer.

I’m curious what exactly made Sega look at Team Sonic Racing being a disappointment when it came out close to another racer and Superstars being a disappointment from (even before everything else) being a clearly budget release priced at $60, and decide Crossworlds can succeed at $70.

Still can’t tell how many of these people just never actually thought about grammar before and how many just managed to hate queer people so much they literally removed the knowledge of “singular they” from their minds.

Like, maybe they think it’s “talking shop” too much for casual audiences, but you’d think adding the Y-axis to the level design would be an addition worth really emphasizing in the marketing.

The way I see it, if there’s no good option here anyway, the option where I show I’ll still buy retail over digital is probably the least bad.

It got declawed a bit in the edit, but in earlier versions it was much more clear:

We know from things like Yuzu that the game logic is frame-based, and I doubt we’ll see many upgrades requiring that kind of work outside of Switch 2 Editions.
Maybe for late-gen stuff like TTYD that would’ve had S2 devkits, but definitely not 2017 games.

Pretty much anything on Switch should consistently hit it’s performance ceiling by default. Only thing is I wouldn’t be surprised if the 2D Zelda’s are only 1440p instead of a full 4K so performance can stay stable.

The Japanese site makes it pretty clear this will be the standard method of next-gen upgrades, and with every single one they announced all coming day 1 I’d bet we’ll get a new batch every month or so.

Only ended up playing the story mode once since after finally beating the final boss my first thought was that I didn’t want to have to do that again. Hearing that Trip’s story apparently ends with an even worse version of that boss didn’t exactly inspire me to continue either.
comment in response to

Weirdly enough, despite the western page for the free upgrades only vaguely mentioning “performance”, the UK page specifically mentions some improving resolutions, and then the Japanese site in multiple places emphasizes “clearer, more beautiful images” (as Chrome translate words it).
comment in response to
post
The dynamic resolution can apparently go up to 1080p in the original version, so you should get a consistent 1080p60 as is, and then 1440p60 or maybe even 4k60 after the free update.

Far as we can tell, it’s an extension of Nintendo of Japan seeing those games as having too much value to “give away” until recently.

The weak Yen maybe? If the Switch 2 game cards are pricier I could see them opting for keys in regions where they aren’t expecting the strongest sales.

A Switch 2 version’s been confirmed, so it’ll probably be a non-issue in a little over a month.

It has to have been someone at/near the top who decided to do it. It seems really out of character for them.
...not in a "how could my digital friends do this to me!?" way, more in a "those guys would've expected this reaction" way.

The controller was honestly like 95% of the reason I was hoping we’d get NSO GameCube.
comment in response to

I’ll probably get the NSO one, but specifically so I can have an official wireless controller with rumble to use on my real GameCube, and then sync it back to my Switch 2 every once in a while if I ever want/need to use it there again.

People brought up a quote from him in the early 90s advocating for tariffs, so it seems like one of those things where he decided on one interpretation 35 years ago that he never changed because he’s “a genius”, and now nothing’s stopping him from detonating the suicide vest.

The country as a whole may not be quite as accepting of it, but there's still plenty of people over there who think that fact is fucking stupid.

I don’t think anyone’s denying Shenmue had a lot of influence, it’s just that most people agree calling it THE most influential is pretty laughable.
It’s like when BAFTA’s “most iconic game character” poll ended up giving it to Lara Croft of all characters.

My thoughts exactly. For Nintendo’s games on Switch 2 I’m either paying $70 or I’m paying eBay.
comment in response to

We still have to see if it’s just a vocal minority right now, but with the way everyone paying attention is reacting to the prices it’s hard not to imagine the $80 price tag will result in at least noticeably lower sales.
comment in response to
post
Inflation hits consumers too. Game prices have been stagnant for so long because they’re the sustainable prices for the market if you want your game to sell a profitable amount.
They’re charging $80 because they think we’ll just pay $80. That is THE reason they made this decision.

As an ideology, fascism is basically a very effective unethical way to get into power. Once it's out of that scenario it always falls apart eventually since it doesn't have an actual foundation.

Europe are the ones getting physical games for the equivalent of $90. America isn't getting a digital/physical price split. On the American website you can even see it specifically call $79.99 the MSRP.
comment in response to
post
I think everyone's annoyed because we already braced for the price hike... to $60. Regardless of what Nintendo tries to act like Tears of the Kingdom costing $70 meant, this is effectively a $20 increase for the cost of their premium games. Even higher in Europe for physical.

Plus I can get free shit from Nintendo when they have to drop the price next year.
comment in response to

I’ll probably get the console in the launch window. I was going to use money from selling some game stuff (that I’d be selling anyway) to cover pretty much all of it, so the cost’ll be pretty lateral for me anyway. I don’t mind paying $40-ish for a Switch Pro.
comment in response to
post
I don’t even think the console itself is really overpriced for what’s in it (solid hardware for handheld, 120hrz HDR screen, etc.), but $80 for PS4-ish quality games is the real problem.
comment in response to
post
You have to at least admit it’s pretty arrogant on Nintendo’s part to have only released one special case $70 before this point, and then immediately leap all the way past it to make $80 their new “premium game” price when the tech is still a generation behind the consoles where $70 prices started.

Good source of Nintendo news for kids, too. Even before the nazification Twitter wasn't exactly the kind of place you'd want kids let loose in.

Maria’s sister would also only be in her early 50s, since she was supposed to be a baby when Maria died. Younger than Eggman at least (in Frontiers he talks about “not really knowing Maria” as if he could’ve been able to).

Again, less “I think she looks and sounds 50”, more “I could imagine someone who draws in this king of style trying to tell me she’s 50”.

I feel like her design and voice could pass for anime 50. At least something that I could imagine them trying to pass for 50. Either way what’s important is that there are a lot of things suggesting she’ll be a Robotnik.
comment in response to

If theories are right about her being Maria’s sister (in her not in Gerald’s journal she does imply she has a personal investment in it), I can see them wanting to make her seem inconspicuous at first before making it a big twist reveal.

May sound like a reach, but it honestly wouldn’t shock me if we see it show up to some degree in the Switch 2 presentation on the 2nd. It would be a good popular example of indie games, and obviously Nintendo does like Toby. After all, if it’ll start costing money even Deltarune has to advertise.
