2 years ago I made an excursion in Keyforge, a CCG, cos' it was almost dead and thus cheap.
Game was interesting and so was studying the ecosystem : collection, pay to win, complexity craving, expansions, tournaments...
Rules were quite consistent despite complexity.
Now sold and moved to mindbug...

It's probably easier to make a "deep" game with complex rules than making a "deep" game with simple rules?
"Deep" in the sense of having numerous strategic and/or tactical possibilities, and long enough sequences of moves to achieve some of those possibilities.

A recent example of uselessly (IMO) complex rules was in Red Cathedral.
You have colored dice that can be linked to a dice of another color, which itself can be linked etc...
So, when choosing what you want to do, you have to constantly follow links to know the action you will really do... Annoying.

To many people, "expert" games seems to relate to *rule complexity*. When asking, I was said that chess (or Go) is not an expert game, which sounds so wrong to me considering the degree of expertise one can put in it (I am still discovering marvels after 25 years, see abrobecker.free.fr/chess.htm).

It's the game I played the most, recently. I offered 2 to friends, and at least 3 other persons bought it after I introduced them to the game...

Excellent combinatorial game for sure. But we (my game group) found that the kingmaker effect is so strong that we only play with 2 players. (Or 2×2 since the box allows it)

The rules' diagrams are very bad though: the before/after should not be shown on the same board but on slightly separated diagrams showing the same part of the board.
