I again need white people to be real careful about calling people of color LIBS if they warn folks to stay safe and be easy We protested for fucking years and not only did you not support us physically and financially Lot of us died and disappeared We aren’t talking to you

“People are protecting their NEIGHBORS who are being terrorized” THIS!!!!!

Just this easy.

Yall, I don’t think most people outside of LA understand just how little fucks Angelinos have to give right now. Between MeToo, BLM, strikes, bloated CEO salaries & layoffs, recession, inflation, and the fires, the — ONLY THING — that’s been keeping ANY of us afloat, has been each other. That’s it.

Hell of a photo

Thankful that so many people understand that mass protest is an important backstop against authoritarianism

The most striking thing about the LA protests is how many people just dropped everything to show up and yell at federal agents. There are people in suits, and carrying dogs, and wearing flip flops or bike helmets. These are not people who planned to do this today. But there they are.

The fearmongering has worked. People don't believe that using the funds taken from police to increase resources would reduce crime substantially more than policing does EVEN THOUGH MULTIPLE STUDIES SAY OTHERWISE. We are governed by fear and vibes. The anti-science agenda isn't new.

being bi is really dope

A lot of folks need to pause and speak gently to themselves. Admit to yourself, "I'm afraid right now." Sit with that for a moment, understand what reflexes it's triggering, and that those impulses don't necessarily apply meaningfully to anything that's happening.

KBJ is the future of our Supreme Court if we can will it.

It is very, very hard to last in a job where every day is like this.

“her name Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame. "Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she […] Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

Just remember. All of this could be solved- every last bit of it- if trump would call for comprehensive immigration legislation. It’s what his job is and what congress’ job is.

“for no reason, whatsoever, the New Deal coalition just decided to break up, for the money, I guess.”

I spent the better part of a decade in the “skills or signal” literature and let me tell you something, all these mofos are *signal drop*

Do we think that the Mayor’s of these cities could reign in their PD’s if they wanted to? What would need to change for Mayors or City Councils to be able to control if/when this sort of collaboration happens?

White people reflexively contradicting Black and Indigenous people about our own lived and historical experiences and *not even being aware they're doing it* is so normalized that it's maddening. Invariably, they act the wounded party when you point it out, and thence comes "alienating your allies".

Similar to Oakland’s last mayoral election where despite ranked choice voting it was very clear who the top 2 were (This is not always the case, eg the recent SF election)

Here’s the brass tacks about ranked choice voting. Unless something very dramatic shifts in the coming weeks, the mayoral race will come down to Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani on the final ballot…

we should really talk more about the substance of these tests

I’m just thinking about pew finding that 77% of LGBTQ in urban areas described where they lived as accepting Vs 45% of LGBTQ in rural areas describing where they lived as accepting www.pewresearch.org/social-trend...

Wow no one could have predicted this. I’m sure AI will fix all this up. futurism.com/computer-sci...

This is definitely something Tulsi did with DNI and is consistent with partisan defunding and firings of Black employees As @jamellebouie.net keeps saying - they are trying to segregate the civil service, just like Woodrow Wilson newsroom.haas.berkeley.edu/research/how...
