Chaotic evil web dev. LARPS as a game dev. Insanity incarnate. Megalomaniacal catgirl maid. Never forget the Catgirl maid incident of 2023.

I was trying to take a quick swipe at HR gatekeeping things they don’t need to (like degrees for devs) and failed miserably.
comment in response to post
Oh, I know that’s not who you are referring to. I haven’t met a dev outside of social media that still cares about whether someone has a degree in years. Only HR types seem to care about that, at least in my area.
comment in response to post
I believe the term you are looking for is “HR department”. Only people I meet IRL that still care about that. I don’t care if you went to school. I only care about whether I will constantly have to work overtime to pick up the slack (not including mentoring/ramping up juniors).

I just don’t think at all: before, during, or after; posts or otherwise.

I’m old. I watch subs because the dubs I grew up with were just SOOO bad. It’s just habit for me at this point even though dubs in general have come a long way.

Tell the future it won’t have to wait long. The scrap metal trim falls off all by itself already.

I can’t believe I’m at the point where I consider competent people screwing things up instead an improvement, but here we are.

There are some with brain cells. Aides mostly. And they were supposedly ignored completely with respect to tariff calculations. Don’t get me wrong. Implementing their ideas would have been bad too. Just not THIS bad.

Anyone who tells you a speculative financial instrument is not significantly affected by financial trends is lying to you and trying to make sure you’re holding the bag instead of them when it crashes.

As Representative of Fat Hairy Men - District 37, I’m going to have to insist you find a new description. We don’t want him either. I can’t speak for my gay constituents specifically, but I’m PRETTY sure they mostly feel the same way. My office will be sending a cease and desist notice shortly.

It also appears Drupal offers some level of SSG, but can’t comment too much on that or its SSR implementation being a Svelte and Angular guy that doesn’t use it these days.

The VA also has a decent bit of timed content such as events, page updates based on agency rule/law changes, a blog, etc. Are there other ways to import data than a CMS? Yes, but you already have a stable CMS, and you can still use server-side rendering to make a static version of the content.
comment in response to post
They think they want that now until 80% of their tickets start being verbiage changes.
comment in response to post
Yeah, if you want to move off Drupal specifically, cool. Seems like those dev hours could be put to better use elsewhere, but okay. But not having any CMS functionality at all … on the VA site? That’s just insane and a complete waste of dev or DBA time when people want edits.

I will concede that some people take this too far, but there are definite lines that each side shouldn’t be making decisions on. That does not mean they should not be asking questions and offering suggestions in areas they are knowledgeable in. But there need to be clear lines for final decisions.

Now if these personnel have a technical background, I’ll definitely be willing to listen to their ideas and opinions. It isn’t about being territorial. It’s about preventing people from making decisions they aren’t qualified to make to the detriment of the project.

I have literally seen a PM try to dictate database schemas and service internals. We are defensive of the how because that’s the kind of nonsense that happens when we aren’t.
comment in response to post
Division of responsibilities and not caring are two separate things. It is absolutely true that a PM or analyst’s opinions on things like tech stack, algorithmic choices, and how I code what they asked for do not matter. I will 100% tell them to get that shit out of requirements if they try.

My manager accuses me of being a software engineer, but I assure you those are just slanderous lies.

At the very least, I would think you’d want to read the profile to see if you have any interest whatsoever in talking to the other person on a dating site/app. PFPs don’t really tell you much about the actual person. Apparently, we were both mistaken. 😔

I have no idea what kind of law it would be. I just want Lovense’s name codified in US law

Probably the time I sliced open my finger with a meat slicer, followed closely by the time I impaled my finger with a hand drill. Third being the time I got road rash on the fingers on my writing hand (bc I had to write while it was healing)z There is definitely a pattern here.

I’m not familiar with them. The kiddo hasn’t really ever needed non-medical/therapeutic support for her autism. I had expected to find a run of the mill advocacy and awareness group before reading their Wikipedia page, but holy shit.

There are edge cases in virtually everything. But in your example, if it’s truly unreasonable, they’ve self-reported and you know to not get involved with them. Will everyone heed the red flag? No, just like not everyone will respect reasonable boundaries.

He probably posted it as bait. Header address info shows “Gib Studios, LLC”. No such LLC exists in Florida (current or inactive), which would be needed to conduct business at the Miami address listed. That Miami address also doesn’t appear to exist.
comment in response to post
Yep. And if someone takes issue with you setting boundaries, that’s a them problem.

This is a multi-year project, and I mean 5 at least for building, testing, pilot, etc. Doing it in months because LLM that no one will have time to validate the output with no pilot and no time for serious integration testing is … yeah.

You’ve got it all wrong. I make sure to place mine across my neck when I buckle. That way if I get in a crash, there’s soft tissue to cushion the blow.

Would highly recommend. A bunch of the Sony/Xbox exclusives are gradually getting ported. Non-first party Nintendo too. Plus more Steam releases of everything from some dev indies to AAA titles than you could ever hope to play. My Switch has been relegated to Xenoblade, Mario, and Zelda these days.
