"Are the worst cuts in the past?" No. DOGE decimates agencies with illegal cuts hoping GOP Congress finishes the kill. Even Dems could trade "dead" agencies away to try to save budget negotiations. Such acts of Congress would retroactively legitimize DOGE. Keep calling Dems and GOP: 5calls.org

Over 200,000 AmeriCorps volunteers and staff do incredible work every day serving communities across our country.      This reckless and illegal attempt to dismantle AmeriCorps will take away disaster relief, anti-poverty programs, public health services, and much more.

What do you mean "last"? Who is the current? We're keeping up the fight. Governors are fighting back (apnews.com/article/amer...). Alumni are speaking out (www.13wmaz.com/article/news...). Several NCCC teams are mutually deciding to keep working without benefits. There's an organizing call tomorrow

AmeriCorps VISTA members took the oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. That's an oath for life and that's how long we'll fight for it 💪

It's not yet known how many programs are affected. The letter also asks AmeriCorps State/National programs to relocate members to other grants if possible so presumably not all But let's be clear. We don't stop this through appeasement to Trump and Musk. We stop this with lawsuits to uphold the law

We will be strong because we are running a marathon to save AmeriCorps. We are persistence hunters. DOGE will bore and tire because this is a game to them. But this is our lives, our communities and our families to us.

Pay attention to feelings (frustrated? depressed? aloof? anxious? like acting out?) for not just days but for 6 months or a year or years. Sometimes we don't feel trauma from a loss until we just feel bad and can't remember why.

Window shop. Ride a bicycle. Swim. Do a little cardio. Eat a hot fudge sundae. Bake a vegan cake. Scheme to complete your VISTA Assignment Description funded by nothing but spite no matter how long it takes. Plan your comeback. Smell a flower. Take a warm bath. Go for an easy hike. Be safe.

Fix yourself a healthy, warm meal. Sing along to your playlist. Hug your pets. Ask for help. Meditation focus on the breath. Knit. Use a coloring book. Do a guided meditation. List your resources and your skills/assets. Pray. Garden.

You matter. We care. Call your bestie. Message your group chat even if it’s years quiet. Lean on your network. Hold your loved ones. Care for yourself. We don’t fight for an idea. We fight for each other. We win because we know what is there to lose and what is there to win. Be with each other

To the ones who for the first time found fellowship. To the ones whose hearts are broken. To the service members who are now, over the weekend or on Monday finding out that the greediest, smallest men in America are cutting your service:

To the AmeriCorps member who stayed silent for a year because they believed in a greater mission. To the ones who stepped back so others could speak. For the ones who stepped up even when they were afraid. To the ones who found love.

To the Foster Grandparent who stayed awake worried for their mentee. To the Senior Companion who visited their companion in hospice. To the staff who were RIFfed. To the staff who were essential and are trying through tears. To the AmeriCorps member who came out and found their family of choice.
