I’m dying to know if the BYOB was them being way too precious about being non-drinkers themselves or if McElwee’s gone so broke from betting on his own clients and his constant poker nights that he couldn’t even afford a bartender for a cash bar.

If nothing else, not having a bartender to cut off guests who drink too much is a massive liability risk!

Note: I would have added depression and anxiety as my other chronic conditions, but people ALSO get weird about long-term antidepressant use, because we can't just agree to leave each other's bodies alone.

Judge: And so given all those factual findings, I'm going to exercise the discretion I have to ORDER THE RELEASE of Mahmoud Khalil

Also, the idea that people aren't also animated by the bill...doesn't seem to be true? I saw a bunch of "If there's money for Trump's parade, there's money for Medicaid" signs at the protest I went to last weekend. People are mad about both!

Even as slavery was holding the South back economically, it was making a small handful of people wildly wealthy, and those were all the people in charge. They weren't giving it up willingly. To borrow a more modern phrase, we had to pry slavery from their cold dead hands.

I’m mostly just baffled by people who value racism over a day off. We have too few holidays in America! Europeans would riot under these conditions! I’m perfectly happy to have a holiday that’s not about me.

Same. I’ve been to a Catholic Church twice in the last decade, both for family funerals. But it’s my culture and seeing these dudes wander in and treat it like the more socially acceptable version of evangelicalism is just so weird and off-putting that I can’t ignore it like I probably should.

You do not want a visit from the Secret Service about your hilarious joke. Just block him or send him a picture of a couch instead.

Seems like a bad idea to push this at the same time you're gutting food safety regulations. Poisoning used to be a much more common murder method since it was easy to blame on tainted food!

I am not! I’ll have to look into him.

This is lovely, thank you for sharing. I also believe in Christ but don’t take the Bible literally, and I note that (a) the verse most often cited to support that proposition doesn’t actually say that and (b) Jesus Himself knew his way around metaphors and parables to make His points.

For anyone not keeping count that's one candidate arrested for doing the right thing and four candidates showing up to support him. By sheer coincidence RCV in NY allows you to rank five people. Well there they all are!

That woman doesn't realize it, but her self-pitying "I called him and sent him a gift" is an admission that she's stomping all over his boundaries. If someone tells you they don't want further contact with you, not honoring that is a deeply shitty thing to do at best. At worst, it's stalking.

No, they did the right thing. A physical confrontation with ICE would have just gotten them arrested and hit with an obstruction of justice charge without helping Lander at all. They documented it so everyone can know what's happening.

Online job searching has gotten miserable on both ends. I know job hunting has never been a good experience, but job seekers have to send out literally hundreds of applications to find anything and wade through scams and fake jobs, employers actually trying to hire get overwhelmed with applications.

I also sleep better and have less anxiety when I exercise. The exercise people are right and I hate it SO MUCH.

Probably by doing even less about sexual harassment than your average HR, if I had to guess.
