It's a mutation of the "think of the children!" argument used to defend homophobia. It's also a hugely patriarchal sentiment. "It's for you own good, ladies!".

If anybody is unsure how to avoid a copy and paste reply, perhaps reference state-bolstered transphobia in the context of any upcoming Pride events in your area. Hit them in the locals if you do not feel you can get through to them with anything else.

I'm sorry to say that writing to my MP (Robbie Moore) is a bit like talking to an answer phone message. I have only ever got soundbite responses to the degree that I'm not sure if he's writing them, let alone reading my messages. Though sometimes it's finger wagging at the opposition. I'll try.

On a similar note, one of the best "true crime" documentaries I've ever seen was The Yorkshire Ripper Files: A Very British Crime Story on bbc4. This is because it refreshingly was not about him at all, it was all about the victims and giving context to the place and time.

BDD is also not improved by changes. In my case, I'll pull out or cut my hair or mirror check. Doing these actions make me feel better temporarily and then worse. Whereas gender transitioning helps. It rarely gets replaced into another fixation?

As somebody who has BDD, I don't see how it would help trans people at all to get support for this? BDD is not just disphoria; it is usually diagnosed based on the repetitive habits or thoughts of the sufferer. It is akin to OCD. Which trans kids may not have ...
