Same! The last time I updated my tracking list, I used Anime Planet. Probably haven't updated that in like a decade, but if I were to re-start tracking on ANN, I'd use that as my old starting point. Looks like I started using that in 2009!

@milesofficial.bsky.social , I think it would be an interesting topic for "Anime By The Numbers" to help dive into the number of Anime clubs and their positive impacts. Its hard to see where Crunchyroll is coming from on this decision to end their Anime Club outreach program and legal screenings.

Plus good on Viz for keeping access to all of these previous purchases. Even if some are now just web-only access. It's been like 13 years, which is a really long time on the internet these days for digital media!

But... I'm now more interested in reading Capeta now, by the same author. But I got to jump services over to KManga... and that's all the pay-by-chapter... Not the binge-reading I was doing for Daigo. Maybe that will be a slow-burn for reading just the free chapters for a while...

I'm not sure I'll watch the anime sequel (since the manga isn't licensed). I think I got the core story, and I feel like it's going to recon some stuff from the end of the original manga. It feels like an end, and that's good for me. For now at least.

I'm glad that Viz has it all up to read in the app. It was a good story and I needed to read more stuff from Weekly Shonen Sunday anyways! Read here: www.viz.com/vizmanga/cha...

The final story arc of the series is interesting. It definitely felt a bit rushed, but it really sticks the landing on all of the character arcs. Especially the last chapter. If the series did last a few more years (into 2002), I think that last arc would be very different.

You rarely see the side-characters until you get deep into the series, so its hard to see too much other perspective on Daigo. While there is hints at a backstory for Daigo from Highschool, there is very little time spent with it, which is kinda refreshing. It constantly moved the story forward.

But what's really interesting about this series is the choices that Daigo makes. After every fire he effectively "learns the wrong lesson." They aren't the wrong answers, but maybe not what an "ideal hero" would pick. That really adds some interesting depth to the character.

Viz labeled it as "Action", which there is a bit since it is about fighting fires. But it's less about a "fight against a thing" and more about the internal struggles of Daigo, the main character. Daigo really carries the entire series. And Captain Gomi is an excellent character too.

The translation and lettering felt perfect for the time period it was set in. The lettering did use the "boxes" for a lot of the text that overlapped art, but it was done well and sparingly. Even if the SFX wasn't translated, the motion of the art really tells the story.

21 series are available to read in English on the MangaHot website. While the website is in Japanese, some of these series are exclusive (or timed exclusive) to this service: web.mangahot.jp/search/?keyw...

Oh, but they have a new logo now. Is that a 'q' or a '9'? Did they also make this via AI? But seems like they haven't made a new announcement about it and still have the old logo/branding for social media.

But it's all about just using the word "AI" to really just gather more start-up funding for Orange. What happened to all the money they had? If it didn't go to paying people or artists... then what? Source: orange.inc/posts/202503...

Oh... and they are already planning on moving into anime as well? Please no.

They are now also being more specific with their job posting for a Translator, which will specifically be "MTPE(Machine Translation Post Edit)". Source: open.talentio.com/r/1/c/orange... But that gets even worse since its also being used for transcribing, lettering, & editorial review?

Currently the highest bids are for Masakazu Katsura's and Yusuke Murata/Riichiro Inagaki's shikishis. There are many other notable mangaka that are also participating in the charity event as well!

Congratulations! I can't wait to see where you go with this!

Basically forcing myself to get this project done and launched before the end of May, ahead of Anime Boston. That will be my vacation before looping back on the other large-scale projects I've been slowly working on. Hopefully it will be "complete enough" by then with this set deadline.

I'm in too deep now to really change my method. I can only get about 4-5 entries a day added to the database. And for each one I do all of the research and compilation. I've got a rhythm down, but it just doesn't move along very quickly. And I want it "complete" before I launch the database.
