Just because I've somehow already lost track of when I got materials and was working on stuff for my various websites... I've created a document of personal milestones for the last 2 years. There's a lot of "I did this because I found out about that", so getting the order right is important.

Hey! What's that name of that hit anime and manga series? It's got "saga" in the title somewhere. Hold on I think I found it. (But I don't think it was a manga about saunas... 🤔)

High School Kimengumi streaming in English too!? That's pretty shocking. Glad to see that coming out as well!

Finished reading Koji Maki's "Metal K" manga today from Weekly Shonen Jump in 1986. A modern Jump comparison, would have to be "Fabricant 100". Several similar elements, but really just look at the debut Weekly Shonen Jump cover for Metal K.

What benefit is there to Crunchyroll to cut off libraries? In this political climate, it's a pretty awful PR choice and yet another way of booting the medium's target demo. Anime fans start young and they don't have credit cards. www.reddit.com/r/librarians...

Anime clubs hold that exclusive "word-of-mouth" promotion. It's targeted marketing that helps build longevity with your brands/shows. When you and 5 of your friends watch an episode of a show together, at least 1 of them will watch the whole thing. Why throw that away!?

KochiKame is starting to stream on YouTube (via It's Anime powered by REMOW) www.youtube.com/playlist?lis... youtu.be/PpKUfuVLod8

I forget how I'm technically an "early adaptor" of English digital manga volumes. Some of the volume titles in my Viz Library go back to 2012. Plus the entire run of SJ Alpha. But it feels more rare to say I have digital volumes in addition to just the subscription.

I've finished up reading "Firefighter!: Daigo of Fire Company M" by Masahito Soda on the Viz app. It was originally published in Weekly Shonen Sunday in 1995-1999. Outside of the art style, it had that "timeless" feel to it. Before the internet, cell phones, and other modern tech.

Come take a trip down memory lane with us! The year is 1989, Mid June. It’s practically summer. It’s Shounen Sunday’s 30th anniversary and Yaiba’s popping off. Just look at these color pages! This week’s chapter was Yaiba’s fight against Kojiro on the train.

The 2013 Live action adaptation of "Kamen Teacher" (仮面ティーチャー) will be streaming on Doki TV later this month in English. The manga was originally written by Tōru Fujisawa, who is most notable for the "Great Teacher Onizuka" series. The manga ran in Weekly Young Jump in 2006-2007 for 4 volumes.

If you ever need that motivation to get started on a project or a goal you want to reach, give this interview a read! The barriers to reach your goal may not be as bad if you work with your friends, reach out for help, and just dive in to learn along the way. That dream can become a reality!

I need to explore the bindings of my Weekly Shonen Jump issues a bit more. I noticed that in my 1993 issue that I got today, there were 2 staples that went through it, in addition to being glued. I don't recall seeing those staples on later issues (which mine tend to be 1997+)...

Based on popular demand (not one but TWO people), I'm going to do a little thread (🧵!) based on the presentation I recently gave as part of my Prange Collection research award, about manga (comics) books published between 1946 and 1949.

I wonder if we will get a new manga by Kentaro Fukuda anytime soon. I enjoyed "Double Taisei" when it ran in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 2019. They didn't quite hit the "3 strikes" with "Devily Man" and "Double Taisei," so I think they could still get one more shot!

www.viz.com/shonenjump/c... Captain Tsubasa is now on the Viz Shonen Jump app, meaning even more of you can read one of the most important comic series of all time.

Woo! Anime Boston badge arrived in the mail today. Normally don't have much of a wait to pick them up in person, but being able to get it mailed in advance is very appreciated! A little less than a month before the con. Time will fly by!

Oh... it seems like Emaqi is now really leaning into AI and machine translation for their manga titles. They were before, but they were trying to hide it. But this single quote really just removes any doubt. Source: www.anthropic.com/customers/or...

A bunch of famous mangaka shikishis are currently up for auction to support a charity for the victims of the 2024 Noto Earthquake in Japan. The auction will last for 5 days. All of the auction pages can be found here: auctions.yahoo.co.jp/seller/mp2z1...

I read "Nice Prison" chapter 2 to see if it fixed the timing/paneling... and they did! The jokes are landing on the expected panels for the comedy pacing. So maybe the first chapter just went through too many rewrites and messed up that needed rhythm? Great to see the 4-panels being translated too!

Manga readability tips: - Make speech bubble reading order VERY clear. - Don't fit in too much per page. - Reduce word count (don't write a novel, people WILL check out). - Choose readable font. - Since a lot of comics are read on mobile, don't make font too small (hard to read).

Trust us, you’ll want to experience the wild humor of Me & Roboco in its original form! 📖✨ Read the manga before watching the movie! Read a free preview of Me & Roboco: buff.ly/DBGcFso

Manga Z is now live again! What's impressive is that it appears to have retained almost the entire library of Japanese titles that it had previously! Glad to see those authors didn't have to re-add the titles or get lost to time. Lots of independent-owned series there you can't find elsewhere!

🚨ANNOUNCEMENT🚨 For close to a decade, Manga Mavericks has been dedicated to discussing the manga industry. Now, we’re turning the page…literally! Manga Mavericks is now proud to announce our new publishing division, Manga Mavericks Books!

I'm discovering just how overlooked Live Action adaptations of anime/manga really are in the English-speaking social fandom. There's such a large depth of titles that are basically completely under the radar with limited promotion. (Hopefully I'll help to start fixing that next month....)

I'm hoping that a vendor at Anime Boston this year has an early copy of "The Darwin Incident" volume 7. Often some Viz titles are there early... but I really don't want to wait to read the next volume of this manga! It's really good, and has a good chance of being a big hit when the anime comes out!

Making your fandom stuff (video, blog post, artwork, podcast) to be accessible benefits EVERYONE. Captions Transcripts Image ALT Text Color contrast Headings Also educating and encouraging folks to do the same helps. Just don't be a jerk about it.

Every new large-scale project I work on for Manga Properties is always a discovery and learning experience on how I should tackle these kind of project. Learning from this one that I prefer to get a lot of the research done ahead of time. Then populate the website once I have everything.
