And sound “sciency” for the tech bros and general public who think science is good but don’t really understand it. Sigh…
comment in response to post
Also comes with the misunderstanding of science, distorting the process of truth finding through continual skepticism and refinement of models that approximate truth/reality to bend it to skepticism of everything that doesn’t fit your narrative. Sigh…

I mean with them wanting to RTC vaccines that have already been RTC-ed, medical ethics be damned, paired with a lack of understanding of science…I think you are giving them too much credit. We all know “high quality” evidence = matches my beliefs, no matter how they try to dress it up
comment in response to post
Oh I know. And the whole bit about evaluating the balance of the evidence based on its strength, they will just argue the strengths of junk science aren’t recognized, you have to consider all the “evidence”, etc etc.

Hilarious in a if-you-aren’t-laughing-you-are-crying way that they define data fraud/fabrication, say that gov employees can’t rely on that, but we all know it won’t apply to anything from Wakefield… oh and they “forbid” cherry picking
comment in response to post
Hilarious that they define academic misconduct and fraud and say that no employee should rely on it, but of course I’m sure that doesn’t include anything authored by Wakefield…

It’s shocking how well the white font trick for hidden AI instructions to add in dinosaurs or vampires or other nonsense to responses works. I’ve also had students turn in reflections that say “as an LLM, I am interested in human cognition….” 🤦🏼‍♀️

Maybe it’s just because I finished grading, but I’ve never had to fail students for continuing to cheat after I caught them, but I’ve failed 3 this year because they clearly AI-ed additional assignments after we talked one-on-one (plus syllabus policy, plus in class rant after AI exam cheating).

Will lead to fewer and fewer humans actually engaging in the loop, & as time goes on resulting in basically robots talking to robots. And I have no idea how to advert that, the genie is out of the bottle. It’s astonishing what students will turn in without reading the AI slop that is produced 2/2

Yeah, that could be helpful. I have been inundated w/ AI generated basic reflections from my intro psyc class this semester tho, & I worry that the easy accessibility of AI is destroying critical thinking skills of so many. I am concerned that finding more & more ways to outsource crit thinking 1/?

Tho clearly the current review system is broken. Not sure that AI generated reviews are the way to fix it, I foresee it generating even more problems if suddenly all peer review is really robot review.

I remain skeptical that there will be a universal prompt that will get it there, so then a human will still need to do the review, and given the risk of hallucination, energy usage, and the push to make everything done by AI seems to really not save the process anything.
comment in response to post
I’m not seeing how this is helpful…if I have to read the paper and note flaws, then ask AI to do the same but poke it till it also sees the same issues I have…I could just do the review myself? Or give AI my list of critiques and have it flesh it out?
comment in response to post
Haha, mine were both at the same time. Which was very odd when I had only been there for basically 1 semester 😅

My first year review was due back in like March…which made it really more of a first semester review, ha. Still got grading to do before my first year is done 🥲

Decided to get my bebe her second MMR waaaay ahead of schedule, partially to boost efficacy now that measles is running rampant, partially because I’m not confident vaccines will be easily available when she hits kindergarten…

Oh 1000% that is what it is. And for women to be pumping out babies and looking “feminine” in the home, not being pesky in society
comment in response to post
I’m also confused how, if things are race AND gender “blind”, who cares about trans athletes? Everything should be a co-ed meritocracy? Oh wait, that’s right, it’s not really about being blind to differences, it’s about putting women and minorities “in their place” 🤬

Mind boggling that instead of expanding access to high quality early education and childcare, esp when it’s so $$$ and scarce, they cut it (not really tho if they want to subjugate women…)

The developmental science on Head Start is super clear that it is an insanely cheap intervention with massive lifelong consequences for the kids involved, and of course their families, their local economies, etc.

The thing that kills me is all three AI suggest it’s a stupid idea 🙃

At least if we survive this will be an excellent example of why blindly trusting AI is bad…

Up in Fargo we keep getting teased with nice sunny days that are brutally windy and/or gorgeous days during the week and snow during the weekend 😭

OH MY GOD LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU WANT TO ZOOM PITTY PARTY AND COUGH AND SNEEZE AND LAMENT TOGETHER. I’m told it gets better about 1.5-2 years after they are introduced to a germ pool, so I really screwed myself by moving with a daycare kiddo 😵‍💫

Also like…you don’t just get to full blown, 5-alarm fascism overnight, it comes in small shifts that are…still fascist…

Nah, it’s still patriotic, just the OG white male only kind 😡
