There was a story that Atari was publishing more Pac-Man cartridges than VCS systems and when an executive was asked why, he replied that, “customers would want a copy for their ski home.”

Totally relatable.

I found myself defining the “maze looter” and “maze anti-looter” genres not long ago. traversingvirtual.blogspot.com/2023/08/towa...

I just finally acquired facsimiles of the pages, myself. I plan to translate it as well. It is a notable moment in gaming history, but even the game itself admits that it isn’t much of an RPG!

Underrated card back in the day. Blue direct damage? Shut down your opponent’s Hypnotic Specter deck? Cheap because nobody liked them? I’ll take 4 copies with 4 Psionic Blasts, thanks.

I am an academic writing about game history in our university’s Game Design & Production program under the Digital Media dept. I teach game history but don’t use Kent nor Replay (both are riddled with errors). I find History of Digital Games by Williams to be just right for our 10-week course.

Premise 1: Teens are intrinsically criminals who must be kept away from all public spaces and prevented from gathering in groups. Premise 2: Why these teens on their phones and computers and YouTube and Twitch all the time? They are mentally ill.

Here is my English Dirty Pair novel published by Kodansha in 1991 to help students learning English. Mughi looks more like a coeurl from an A. E. van Vogt story than the fuzzball seen in the anime series. Came with an “Enjoy Reading English!” Bookmark.

Wow! What? Here is an excerpt from the Donkey Commando designer's notes that essentially states "even though we call Donkey Commando an RPG, it isn't." The game is a simple, randomly generated dungeon crawler (in a modern setting) like Metagaming's Death Maze or Citadel of Blood.

Say, that blog you linked to has a pretty extensive overview of Donkey Commando! mesgamer.hatenablog.com/entry/2018/0...

Oooh, are you going to modify the Crusher Joe RPG for a Dirty Pair adventure? I’ve been tempted to do the same with the Murphy Pirates tactical game, but the game system is clunky. Check out my rules translation with additional Joe character and equipment details: boardgamegeek.com/filepage/290...

Like the ones Dark Horse published? I also have a Dirty Pair novella that was published in Japan for English language students some 30+ years ago. www.darkhorse.com/Books/13-924...

Nope. It is a black hole in RPG history to me. Let me know if you come across a complete copy of Tactics #3.
