Hi hello! I talk about some cool STEAM stuff, mostly focused on climate science and ecology. Check me out on YouTube https://youtube.com/@beanstemsci Full transcripts and details available at https://beanstem.org

Hey! I'm an independent science communicator, I don't know if I'd have the resources to do this, but I'd love some more info if possible!

"It’s maybe the wrong word to call it restoration. We're not going to get them back to what they were... [We're] gonna limp them through the next couple of decades as the climate needs to get stabilized. I think we can do that." - Dr Margaret Miller, 2020 voices.nmfs.noaa.gov/margaret-mil...

@davidho.bsky.social @whysharksmatter.bsky.social @sarahmackattack.bsky.social Is there a chance any of you could get me connected with anyone? Thanks!

On the cuter side of weirdos, there is the tawny frogmouth, which really ought to be called the muppet bird.

Plastic is harmful, and microplastics are harmful because you're exposed to them ALL the time. They're even in the air (doi.org/10.1016/j.sc...) But MPs are also harmful because they expose you to harmful chemicals that they collect. Research "plastisphere" for more on that specifically

"nylon 6,6 may especially harm developing airways and/or airways undergoing repair" doi.org/10.1164/rccm... Microfibers do result in intake of heavy metals, though "minimal" doi.org/10.1016/j.jh... Plastic packaging leaks endocrine-disrupting chemicals into food doi.org/10.1080/1040...

Plastics are a broad category, and they're made from various additives/solutions. That makes it hard to blame "plastic" as one thing. Microplastics are a really broad topic, but if you want to learn more, I have a video coming out soon about it. I also recommend A Poison Like No Other by Matt Simon

We really don't have many solid links, no. What we do know paints a two-fold problem: 1. We know we often come in contact with MPs and we ingest some 2. We know that MPs are both made from bad chemicals, and they accumulate bad chemicals/pollutants/pathogens as they move through the environment

I think this comes from a lack of understanding that climate change is intertwined with social justice, living wages, housing prices, and all these other topics that people do care about. They're all inter-related.

Nothing specific comes to mind after reading the paper... I think my next project is on coral or coastal ecosystems, so definitely tangential, but not quite the same thing lol

This is awesome work!! Is there any part that you're particularly proud of that you want to share?

Them: we must trust biology! Biologists: I'mma be real with you - we have no idea what a 'fish' is.

That *is* a nice bug

I talk about STEAM topics with a focus on climate science and ecology. I'm still working kinda slowly while I get workflow and time management smoothed out, but I publish a full transcript with sources and citations on my website with the goal of being a high-quality source of factual information

Hello! I'm a small science communicator who's just getting started on YouTube. My stuff is on YouTube at youtube.com/@beanstemsci or beanstem.org
