Just move fast and break things.

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN you really need a refresher read on Germany and Hitler 1939-1945. Some key word searches: Gestapo. Brown Shirts. SS.

I think that's true, but I also don't think the article was talking about military aid. It was more about humanitarian foreign aid.

A lot of speculation about the terrible things that Carney MIGHT do. Why not give him a chance and see what he actually does?
comment in response to post
For Canada, this is a bit misleading. Foreign aid was exceptionally high in 2022–23 because of significantly increased assistance to Ukraine, including humanitarian aid and loans, alongside refugee-related costs. The next year it was lower, but since then it has been going up.

Exactly! Americans have a very serious constitutional problem and only they can solve it, if it can be solved at all. I'm sure they have the sympathy of all Canadians, but, at the moment, the best we can do is try to protect Canada from what has happened to the US.

Canada's relationship with the US is infinitely more complex and fraught than it ever was with Iran. Americans' rights to express their democratic views are entrenched in their constitution. If the Trump government tramples on those rights, nothing we say will help.

You're saying that Canada should "lean on" the Trump administration in its war against immigrants, demonstrators, Governors and Mayors. I'd prefer that we focus on getting tariffs removed that are harming Canadian businesses and workers. The US is a mess, but that's not something for Canada to fix.

This is something that Americans have to deal with themselves. It is the foreseeable and inevitable result of reelecting Donald Trump as president. It is a lesson and a warning for us as Canadians, but it is not our place to tell Americans how to run their country.

Paranoia!

The problems of the Trudeau Government in it's declining days had little to do with MP's speaking out of turn and was much more about ineffective communications controlled by the PMO. We need the PMO to take a step back and for the PM and caucus to take a stronger role.
comment in response to post
Each MP to brief their own staff. If this leads to a diversity of views, that’s as it should be. It’s not up to the PMO to decide on a party line.
comment in response to post
MP's can deal with instructing staff to follow up.
comment in response to post
So it's NOT a problem that PMO staffers are no longer allowed inside national Liberal caucus meetings.

Agreed. I'm a dual citizen with a need to go to the US frequently (elderly relatives). While I personally feel safe, I recommend avoiding travel to the US now if you do not absolutely need to go.

I also feel that nuclear has great potential. As for fusion, it's just a matter of when.

Yes, a massive upgrade to Canada's electric power grid seems like a high-priority nation-building project.
comment in response to post
I disagree, but that's the challenge. Solar, wind, and nuclear have shown great progress, and there's also hydro. It's up to the O&G industry to show whether it's capable of producing more while emitting less. Emission pricing provides an incentive. The industry needs to put up or shut up.
comment in response to post
Yes indeed. Good luck to us all.

Pipelines are a Danielle Smith fantasy and fodder for headlines now that the media don't have Trudeau. There will be nation-building projects and economic stimulus under Carney, who is as committed to controlling climate change as you are. The fires simply support the case for controlling emissions.

Like paying extra tax, voluntarily.
comment in response to post
That's assuming that Canada provides adequate support for these extra hires. The goal should be to build a larger, better R&D enterprise in Canada.

Dale suggests that the government provide serious answers to Conservatives' unserious questions. That might be a good thing, especially given that no one actually listens to their current back-patting responses.
comment in response to post
We need it already, if only to keep out the guns, but the US should pay for it.

Two years is hardly a short time if the parties involved are focused on completing the required tasks.
