Run in looks good. No big six in last month. Also don't mind having tough fixtures at the start. Get them out the way and maybe get a cheeky result before the confidence grows in them

I think we are trying to do that with Minteh, the new lad but it's just so hard. Bear in mind I don't think we've bought anyone that we wouldn't make a lot of money on
comment in response to post
Exactly. They sell a couple of star players then buy a few dodgy players and you're down there. Look at West Ham. Dortmund have a similar model and are struggling because they don't have the next Bellingham or Harland at the moment
comment in response to post
Because we're aiming to be a CL club and we need guaranteed CL players. And that costs money, even when buying from abroad
comment in response to post
Think this is the problem with Newcastle. We should be aiming higher than replicating Brighton's strategy but don't have the clout to be challenging the big 6 in terms of income or international attractiveness.
comment in response to post
Also, think all these people having a go at our recruitment need to look at who we've bought. Apart from saying Barnes and Targett have we ever overpaid for a player

Agree. Burnley have to prep for PL. So either they keep their best asset or make enough from him to help rebuild.
comment in response to post
Think people are reluctant to sell to us at a good price. That's just the way it is.
comment in response to post
Think Burnley are just pushing for big money so they can prep for PL. By sounds of it, Trafford wanted to go and think he'll start to get annoyed if they price him out again. Think £30m would be fair ish price. 40 sounds a bit much
comment in response to post
Think he adds some attack to our midfield. And goals. Think in games where we should be winning and have struggled it's because we can't break down deep sitting teams. We don't need Big Joe in these games. We need someone who can burst through from midfield, and think he gives that
comment in response to post
Buy Kelly back from Juve at a cut price 🤣
comment in response to post
Just worry that if he has another loan that doesn't work out then we lose all value
comment in response to post
I wonder if he's done enough at under 21 and international level for us to cash in on him. Don't think he's quite got PL levels to his game
comment in response to post
For a young international keeper it's not bad. But there have a lot of young English keepers that have never quite fulfilled their potential
comment in response to post
We should be looking to Liverpool as a model - buy experienced quality but with growth potential (Salah, VVD, etc) but we didn't have the starting base or squad depth to sell players to fund such buys. So we need to balance
comment in response to post
Think the main issue is that Newcastle want to compete with so called big 6 but still don't have the income levels to do so. So yes, we need to be savvy with buying but also we need big name players for CL and for shirt sales and abroad can base
comment in response to post
Think they have a good recruitment strategy that suits a mid table team. They make risky buys and then, when it works, sell big. Also, Newcastle were also relegation battlers before our recruitment strategy helped us out
comment in response to post
I think they are. But doesn't stop them from also going after PL experience
comment in response to post
It was partly due to that yes. Know we worked miracles but we have consistently been finishing high. Not saying we don't need a stronger squad but think our recruitment policy so far has done us well.
comment in response to post
Think a balance is right and feel we have that. We bought PL experience when we needed it in Burn, Tripps. Then we added mix of young talent (Hall, Liv, Gordon) and international stars (Isak, Tonali) plus brought some young talent (Minteh - would have improved 1st team if not for PSR).
comment in response to post
I'd point out that we finished higher than them both. And have a trophy.
comment in response to post
Didn't mean to be rude. But you suggest 18-21 yo from continent who can improve our first team. Yes, there is value but it's rare. Think finding players of that age and profile is high risk. Not just on quality but adapting to life here
comment in response to post
Not saying you can't get them. But the risks are higher that they might flop
comment in response to post
I mean, without going through all of them I can see at least two right away that didn't come from "the continent" and actually came from Championship and would be the sort of player you'd turn your nose up to. Sarr was around £20/30m. Yes, you can get value abroad but also you can get tosh
comment in response to post
Because they were incredibly hard to find. Can you name any like that that we're signed for less than £20m
comment in response to post
We know Howe favours PL experience. And it's less of a risk. Yes, more cost I admit
comment in response to post
Does feel like it's moving into the realms of possibility. Or at least to the point we get close and Chelsea buy him
comment in response to post
Not sure how these pay as you play deals work with PSR
comment in response to post
More thinking get rid of wages
comment in response to post
Think we sell Barnes if they all come in, plus Wilson and Target. Then quiet January 🤣
comment in response to post
Pedro, Elanga, Guehi and Trafford. That'd be a pretty good window.
comment in response to post
Think Guehi will be a big step up, especially from Burn.
comment in response to post
Think as long as we are pushing for CL every season, that's where we need to be. PL is so tough that even a slightly bad season could mean finishing 7/8. Would love to see us in Europe every season and win FA Cup in next 3 years.
comment in response to post
Disagree. Think Guehi would start at the back, think Trafford has it in him to be 1st choice, and Elanga walks in if we play him RW. Pedro would get a lot of games due to his versatility, though feel Barnes would go if we bought him
comment in response to post
As a third choice striker that's English for the CL squad, I'd take him on a free. But only if his cost in terms of wages and signing free was less than Wilson's
comment in response to post
I do think Kelly was bought for that reason but when you get offered that amount of money guess he has to go
comment in response to post
Think they could probably offer more game time but think we've got a good chance of convincing him
comment in response to post
Genuinely think when we first qualified for CL it was too soon. But think we showed our class in the competition and have showed players that we're here to stay. With PSR easing a little this is a huge opp to take us to the next level
comment in response to post
Agree. Would love to be able to do that and keep Barnes, Trippier, Kraft and Murphy. Let go of Wilson, Longstaff, Targett, Dubs.
comment in response to post
Agree. Think partly that's exhaustion, so striker as well
comment in response to post
We need more goals from the rest of the team especially the midfield. When Willock was hitting them in, or Gordon. When Barnes was scoring we hit form
comment in response to post
Also look who we beat this season including Villa, Arsenal, Chelsea. And Liverpool in the cup.
comment in response to post
Think he's very much in the Tonali mold. Not flashy, just tidy, neat football.
comment in response to post
Agree. At the end of it, we've clocked up 66 points, scored more than Villa and deserved that 5th spot
comment in response to post
Imagine that's what it's going to start but got a feeling Eddie going to mix and change to keep Chelsea on their toes.
comment in response to post
Don't mind then looking back. But would love to see a new third kit. Something a bit different
