I was busy for all of yesterday, and the last news I saw was that the shooter had like five kids and a PhD, but was clearly stewing in far-right evangelical propaganda. What did I miss in his backstory that lead to him living with Papa John’s Gabe Newell?

Unmarked pickup, no uniforms or badges, just yelling and pointing guns at bystanders ("Stay Back!") without using words "Police" or "ICE" or "Federal Agents" In practice in our courts if a concealed carry citizen shot it would be ruled murder, but how the heck would they know?

This Army birthday I’m thinking of Medal of Honor recipient Pvt Henry Johnson of the 369th NY National Guard (known as the Harlem Hellfighters). The 369th served more days in the WWI trenches than an other US unit, took more casualties also. DOD just stripped Johnson’s name off Ft. Polk.

These events are overwhelmingly peaceful if the police allow them to be. In Philly, the police presence was small, the cops were respectful and did not interfere with protestors, and as far as I know there were no violent incidents at all.
