The bear, redux. Just in time for Christmas. Analyst by day, law student by night. OU '26. Penchant for lectionaries and old prayerbooks. #FaithfullyLGBT. (I'm not a bolshevik. It's an old joke about a hat...) 🏳️‍🌈⚓♾️

Where I went to Seminary was also a pilgrimage place, and we used the church there. Being built in a weird modern style it captured the south German summer heat. So I completely sympathise. That said, I wouldn't want Mass outside either. I'd rather suffer inside.

I have not heard good things about them, but I've been searching and cannot now find what I read, sorry! So, I'd advise caution.

The Law is the Law, in this case a fair one. As a matter of social justice, people (artists) are entitled to the fruits of their labours. The fact that Trump and his sycophants (Clegg) want to run roughshod over that doesn't change the principle. Oh for leaders who respected the rule of law!

I hear you. They should affirm you, not deny your reality. ❤️ I never thought I'd have no interest in sex in my 40s but there it is. Equally I read that Pope John XXIII had no sexual desire. Ever. Now some folk don't believe that. But given what we know about asexuality, it's easily possible.

I suppose what I'm getting at here is that I came to see the Saints more as fellow pilgrims (admittedly so much more loftier than me) only in times of torment and difficulty. Then I could truly relate to them, and yes, rely on them.

If it's worth anything at all: I've been both Anglo-Catholic and even Roman Catholic. During times when my faith and life were fine then the Saints have been inspirational and all, but difficult still to connect with. But during times of spiritual aridity, that's when I could truly pray with them!

And your church doesn’t have an AED, they should get one. And if they can’t afford one, there are a ton of grants available.

I regret my tattoo but I don't consider it sinful. I wish I could undo it, but that's not the same thing. And I'm not really embarrassed of it either; I just no longer welcome its permanence.

Yes, better still, a small plastercast of feet and a bit of legs, surmounted by clouds. This is _very_ common in catholic churches in the south of Germany and in Austria.

My mum did that. She found it hard going but rewarding!

I feel limited by the ubiquity of what my friends and contacts use (WhatsApp). I wish the different apps could be considered standards and handled by the same app, like Jabber used to do with IMs on PCs. That way it would send over Signal if they had it, if not then whatever else they had.

I really resonate with this. The only thing I find is that with time, experience and cynicism, the "real" me isn't as chipper or happy as I remember him.

It suits you. I could never pull that off. Most hats don't suit me, except the "bolshevik" hat (story for another day).

My (episcopalian) church has tea and coffee in real mugs too! And there's no "kitty" you put money in. I can only assume it is paid for by generous giving at they offertory!

"the gospel proclaimed in an eschatological key": a man after my own heart. I only learnt of it recently, but it would bear the hallmarks of an all-loving God. I shall have a look at that; thank you. 🤗

Ah, I see what you mean now. Thanks. 😁

I don't understand. Do you mean they were ganging up on him?

I too was Black Church. My alignment was, asides from being a little less Liberal, the same as yours in terms of x and y.

My commiserations. I can understand. I find the app, whilst better than what Twitter has become, is superficial at times. Connections aren't as deep as one would want, and heaven help you were you to push for that. It's a tricky conundrum, although I think it does more good than harm. Don't be hasty!

That's wonderful news! I'm so pleased for you. Hurray! Well done you. 😁

That's lovely! I'm excited he may be coming here in the Autumn.

Though parenthetically I would like to know much more about Sarum liturgy, having spent many years under the sway of the traditional Roman rite.

You put me to shame... I use it so seldomly I was looking in the wrong section. 🤦‍♂️ I think I'm spoilt after Breviaries and everything else I find hard to 'drive'... 😅

That's interesting. As in the Catholic Ordinariate? I suspected something like that, but when I looked in my copy of DWDO it didn't look the same. 😩

I'm the same. I want to show the person I really like their posts. But sometimes it could appear creepy. That's a shame, because good stuff should be rewarded.

Yeah, the Denethor eating scenes were good cinematography. Nauseating almost! 😅

For the BBC's political editor, he doesn't impress me much. Pinch of salt, generally.

Elizabeth I was 'Prince of the Realm' (or similar). It might just actually be how it works...

It shows I've been working in the criminal justice system too long. Our priest raised the question of preaching to our vocations group and my first thought was "don't we need permission from the Bishop?", followed by "you'll want to vet the contents!" 🤭

Very handy to know! I wish there was a way to turn it off all the time though, as I'm liable to forget...

I can't even imagine what silly argument they had against it. They weren't Freemen of the Land™ were they?

I love phacelia. I used it to improve beds one year. It's such a clever thing and so pretty!

Indeed. Often truly insufferable.

Yes, I've seen it plenty. I didn't know the name though; thanks! It's mainly mystified me, but I do harbour a secret desire to write like that.
comment in response to post
does the style have a name? I wondered if a degree of sleuthing might find it 'learnable'.

related: I've always wished I could write like this, just cos it looks so darned cool.
