And speaking as a Canadian, does Trump think we would actually want you.
comment in response to post
I believe we do.

Absolutely right. And we have never had a Donald Trump. In 1776 you rebelled against the crown and replaced the King with what...another king? If you lookst countries that use the Westminster system they tend to have very stable democratic governments.

So this is what I don't understand about your system. Here in the Commonwealth the leader of the second largest party in the legislature automatically becomes the "Leader of His Majesty's Loyal Opposition" and starts the job of opposing. Is it not the same for you?

Ahhh....now you are speaking my language....Westminster parliamentary procedure.

He also thinks Canadians all want to be Americans. When exactly will Americans come to the conclusion that he is a few cards short of a full deck?
comment in response to post
Seems to be the MAGA playbook. Convince people to vote against their own self interest. That being said, Americans have been cutting off their noses to spite their faces for decades. The people who most need public health care and education are most inclined to vote against it.

There's a reason why O'Leary is going to Mara Logo with this idea. He knows that no one in Canada would give him the time of day.

Exactly...if one of our politicians even suggested that a disaffected blue state might consider joining the Canadian federation....your politicians would lose their freakin minds. You are just lucky that we Canadians have a sense of humour.

I think that there is an entire group of conservative commentators who need to give serious consideration as to where their loyalties lie. Just because you aren't happy with they way the country has been run for the last five years does not mean that you are justified in advocating the end of Canada

Canadians need to steel themselves for what is to come. I'm sure Trump will go out of his way to make life difficult for us. Stay calm, polite, and try to embrace Peace Order and a Good Government. That will be our salvation in difficult times.

I think Greenland basically did.

Oh....struck a nerve did we?

Here.

It is flattering to think that we live in his head the the degree where he feels it necessary to tweet about us at 3 in the morning. I suspect that things will go off the rails pretty quickly after the 20th and he will have more pressing issues to worry about.
comment in response to post
We appear to be living rent free in Trump's head. You would think that he has more important things to worry about.

OFFS...when was this one released?
comment in response to post
You have the resources. We are actually very eager to sell them to you on favourable terms. Somehow I don't think you want 41 million new citizens who all make Bernie Sanders look like a moderate.
comment in response to post
Oh the numbers are right....in terms of the trade surplus. Most of the $100 billion is oil. Once you remove the oil Canada - US trade is almost equal.
comment in response to post
Well.... A. Most of our $100million trade surplus are actually the oil and raw materials that supply your manufacturing sector. B. If Canadians suddenly became us voters the GOP would not win an election for a generation. So...not sure you want us. Pretty sure you want our trade.

I think the message of the last two days is that the US has neither friends or allies. Its relationships are purely transactional.
comment in response to post
Ok...but on behalf of all Canadians can I suggest that collapsing our economy should not be part of the price paid to ensure American voters learn their lesson.
comment in response to post
I think it is classic Trump. He is trying to intimidate us. It's a shakedown. Trudeau will concede on some small point and the threat will be lifted...at least insofar as Canada is concerned. Mexico may be more difficult.
comment in response to post
Here's the thing. Many of the products Canada exports to the US Americans will continue to need...like oil, car parts, Honda Accords, and lumber. Only under trumps plan you will be spending 25% more .
comment in response to post
The last thing the US wants ate 41 million new pissed off citizens who make AOC and Kamala Harris look like moderates.
comment in response to post
Figured that. I thank God every day my ancestors came here rather than the US.
comment in response to post
Sooo...the good news is that the president of the US is weaponizing tarrifs to use against America's closest trading partners and friends. That is supposed to make the American business class feel better?
comment in response to post
Americans.
comment in response to post
Ok...lumber, oil, electricity, aluminum, car parts. You are still going to need them. You'll be paying a 25% premium on everything.

And right now the chinese are laughing their heads off. The North American trading bloc is one of the US's greatest advantages. Trump just destroyed it. Bring on the recession here in Canada and rampent inflation in the US.
comment in response to post
You do...but it doesn't matter. He will insist that we bend the knee and come crawling. "Nice economy you have there. It would be a shame is something happened to it."
comment in response to post
Expensive to be American. Canada goes into a recession. Just bad policy all around. Well, perhaps Asia and Europe will take our oil, steel, wheat, and critical minerals.

The price of chicken feed is about to go up...which means that the price of eggs will go through the roof.

Ahh...but I'm a born and bred Canadian. Rye whiskey is kind of our thing.
comment in response to post
Somehow I think they will find a way to exempt good scotch...and rye.
