Yesterday I felt like a fish being graded on tree-climbing. Today I am trying to be a capybara.

I needn't have worried. This is an early photo, but eventually about 300 of us lined the street, holding signs, getting lots of friendly honks from traffic (and one mean pickup burning rubber so smoke would hit us). Everyone was peaceful and kind. This is what love of country looks like. #NoKings

I’m going to a protest. I’m a bit afraid of what could happen, but I cannot NOT go. I need to be present for the people who can’t be.

This evening my local library had Book Bingo. This was the first time I’ve ever actually played bingo! … and, the last time. My competitive nature doesn’t like losing repeatedly for an hour while people around me win multiple times. I’m not very good at bingo.

Rabbit rabbit rabbit!

I took two days off around the holiday and treated myself to a five-day weekend. It was wonderful to get my mind off work for a while, knock some items off my to-do list, and enjoy the things that I feel like I never have enough time, energy, or motivation to do.

Quotes I want to remember. “Lack of direction, not lack of time, is the problem. We all have 24-hour days.”—Zig Ziglar (but, is this toxic?) "You can, you should, and if you’re brave enough to start, you will."—Stephen King "Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can."—Arthur Ashe

Our black #cat, nicknamed "Snackface," trying to hypnotize you into giving him snacks.

I just heard the term "music video nights." I think a music video night is something I would like to have. Queue up a few hours of MTV from back when they actually had videos. Invite some friends over. Offer snacks.

I just wrote a letter to someone. Actually wrote it out! Okay, so I composed it in a text file first and then just copied it, and I wrote in pencil because I didn't trust myself not to make mistakes. But still, this is the most I've actually handwritten in years. (Well, printed. I don't do cursive.)

This resonates with me. I want these. (Source unknown, though I tried.)

And this is the video that explained Black Lives Matter protests to me: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sb9_...

The folks who say that affirmative action is "reverse racism" often say that if we'd just stop talking about racism, it would disappear and everybody would be equal. This is the cartoon that, long ago, convinced me they're wrong. source: leftycartoons.com/2008/07/10/a...

"This email was sent to you because you have requested to receive promotional emails from us." No, I can assure you, I did not.

Argh. With the speed I go between 'I'm stuck and frustrated and no good what I do and I am never going to figure this out' to 'oh wait, I got it, this makes sense and is easier than I thought it was going to be' - then back to 'hopelessly stuck' - one of these days I'm going to give myself whiplash.

For future reference, if you ever need to speak with an actual FedEx representative: Dial 800-463-3339 for customer service. After you hear the automated voice, say "main menu," then say "technical assistance," then say "more options," then say "something else." www.reddit.com/r/FedEx/comm...

Me: "my package was delivered to the wrong address, I am at 987 xxx street" FedEx: "it was sent to a different address, we can't tell you that address, we can only confirm an address you tell us, but it only differs in the first number" Me: "was it sent to 887 xxx street?" FedEx: "yes it was!"

One of the #anime series I’m watching this season is “Anne Shirley,” as I’ve never read Anne of Green Gables and I figure this is an easy way to get the gist of it. The main character is overly dramatic about everything. Apparently she’s true to the book, but she’s exhausting!

I recommend following @apnews.com, @altnps.bsky.social, @hcrichardson.bsky.social, and @nytpitchbot.bsky.social if you want to keep up on news about the United States’ wild sprint into facism. (Which I no longer have the mental/emotional capacity for. Linking them here for future reference.)

Some days I feel like I'm just treading water, and some days my mind decides to play a 'greatest hits' reel of all the faux pas I've made since kindergarten. But every now and then I fix something that's broken or I figure out a sticky problem and I can remind myself that I'm a right fine engineer.

We get our local television over-the-air. 'MeTV Toons' shows weird cartoons I've never heard of before like 'Histeria!' and 'Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!' I am amused, though, that all of that network's commercials are for term life insurance or reverse mortgages or pre-paid burial expenses.

Today has been a good day.
