"In the old days, that might have been cause for a corruption investigation. In the modern era, it’s just another Thursday." www.nytimes.com/2025/06/08/u...

not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns los angeles is "real america" and so are all the other big cities the president hates

By no means the most important point, but the president making these fantastical claims again raises the question of judicial deference to executive branch factual determinations in the invocation of emergency/wartime powers.

This is feeling disturbingly like the discourse around the college protests last spring: media and elected officials painted a picture of chaos and violence (supposedly committed by protestors) that was practically unrecognizable to anyone on the ground.

look I don’t know how this all plays out but “we’re too cheap to give you active duty benefits and are jerking you around on stupid bullshit” is not exactly the kind of thing that motivates people to shoot civilians in the street

It’s obvious but worth drawing out what raids of Home Depot’s of all places is about. It’s rounding up people who are really eager for work and for whom there is work, peoples whose labor is in demand. We know this but shows just how far it is from rounding up just the bad guys.

Notable clip today👇 in light of the news that the Trump administration successfully pressured ABC into suspending Moran

Yes. I have heard this from both liberal and conservative people with sources inside the agency. It’s not just the pushback, it’s also that many officers want to believe they’re targeting the “bad guys” and this admin is telling them “screw you, grab families.” Genuinely, morale is way down.

This story exemplifies the reason people are outraged at ICE. This guy did nothing wrong. He broke not a single law. He was a guard at a base that housed US troops. He came here legally through humanitarian parole. He had an asylum application pending. Yet the Trump admin had ICE grab him anyway.

“Concern troll says what?”

really illustrates just what a pathetic bit of theater this is there are simply not large scale riots going on, there’s a clusterfuck of an ICE operation that went badly in one place yesterday if LA was full on rioting I promise everyone would know

the pay is shit, everyone — even other law enforcement agencies — hates you and thinks you're stupid brutes, your coworkers are on the news ziptying grandfathers and kindergarteners every day, your quotas are laughably unrealistic and your bosses spend all day going on tv, what's not to love

Just a reminder that Kash raised money for January 6 rioters, including co-producing a benefit single in which incarcerated rioters sing the national anthem while Trump recites the pledge of allegiance.

“Motivated by love of country” nah Stephen Miller has been on the record as being motivated by hate since he was literally in high school.

To evaluate Terry Moran’s comment that Stephen Miller is “richly endowed with the capacity for hatred,” I recommend this oral history of his time at Santa Monica High School. lamag.com/politics/ste...

Story is interesting, but the sourcing and verification far moreso. A minor hacktivist group happened to have this extremely salient FSB document? SIX intelligence agencies confirmed its apparent authenticity? That is not trivial. I can't call GCHQ and say "yo, run down this pdf I got off Telegram."

Don't let Trump and Musk's feud obscure their fundamental agreement: Both men and the party they own are committed to taking as much as possible from Americans who need help in order to give to those who have more than they could ever want www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Really important thread here.

it's really funny that any news anchor in america can say that biden was mentally incompetent but you can't say trump is mean without getting in big trouble

To be clear, this is what an insurrection looks like:

We could have had her, America.

Worth noting LBJ used the National Guard to protect and expand civil rights; DJT is doing exactly the opposite.

ICE agents waited outside a Phoenix labor and delivery room and as soon as a woman gave birth, took her from her newborn www.tiktok.com/t/ZTjgrwFsd/

the vast silent vacuum of space is louder than the free speech warriors right now

“The president hasn’t invoked the Insurrection Act. He’s instead relying on a theory of inherent constitutional power that is far more limited..” For Lawfare, Chris Mirasola explains the purported legal basis for Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in LA: www.lawfaremedia.org/article/the-...

Every accusation is a confession

You cannot go about your life thinking about ways to avoid making fascists angry. You will not succeed, and you will not be free.

the literal mascot of the whole country is the statue who greets immigrants

Another informative thread, with receipts.

There is a general reminder here. We have to remember the *purpose* of a goal, activity, or output before we then think about what the best tools are to secure it.

Informative thread.
