I mention private prisons specifically because when an industry exists to make money, people will be exploited. The state itself doesn’t inherently have this incentive. My only points: Moving away from for-profit prison = good Not removing communication from prisoners = good

With private prisons, corruption is easier and leads to more profiteering. I’m simply stating that there is not a constitutional guarantee to use mail while incarcerated, so it would be on the chopping block. Digitizing is a better solution, especially if it’s not a private venture for profit.

Guards are a major issue, but trying to fix that with private prisons is screaming into the void. If the alternative they propose is banning mail, I’m much in favor of this. The first step should be getting rid of private prisons and profiteering off incarceration, but we work with what we have.

Apparently all you have is anger and news articles because you’re refusing to contribute anything meaningful to the discussion. Have a nice day Mr. Lumberjack.

Congrats, you found a news article. You ignored the fact that the majority of what’s brought in by guards is powders. The alternative solution is to ban mail altogether, because they’re definitely not going after the prison guards. Which would you rather have? Like I said, go fight the system.

You should direct some of this energy towards actually fighting the prison-industrial complex and away from people who are actually trying to prevent things like communication from being removed altogether through technology.

You’ve obviously not been in or around the prison system in the last 10 years so I’ll break it down. Yes guards bring in the majority of drugs. Those are OPIATES and METH. Guards aren’t responsible for the influx of K2. Technology can be an incredible solution when the alternative is banning mail.

Of course they will? That’s like saying that background checks at FFL dealers solve America’s gun problem. You can take common sense measures to make progress. I’m not advocating for the prison system in the slightest, but the reasoning is there. By the way, why are you so hostile??
comment in response to post
People literally mail in sheets soaked in K2 all the time. The best solution would be to digitize the mail honestly. Removes the risk of contraband while keeping communications open with the outside world.

Far right doesn’t necessarily mean Christian. Islamic extremism is also considered right-wing as it is an inherently socially regressive ideal pushing for a religiously homogenous state controlled by the church. Same phrases, different dialects.

She was also a chair of the House Committee of Appropriations from ‘23-‘24. Somebody get these geriatric fucks to The Villages and out of Washington.

I think at this point, both sides will be happy when Nancy Pelosi no longer runs the Democratic Party.

Idiots and traitors don’t have a monopoly on the word, and allowing them to think they do does further harm.

I do not know where you heard this, but it is false. I can post a technical breakdown if you’re interested, however there was no nation-state interference that caused it.

You don’t have to compromise your morals to be a dissenting voice. I’m not willing to compromise on morality either, but we have a responsibility to speak up for what is right. The only thing necessary for evil to prevail is for good people to stand by in silence.

While they (MAGA) haven’t, there are a large number of voters without developed political opinions (such as many young voters). If they’re not exposed to proper discourse, they will only hear one point of view. Just look at the results of Joe Rogan on youth turnout for conservatives.

Crunchyroll/funimation gift card for anime dude. Preferred restaurant/store/coffee shop gift cards for the nursing student (I’m a fan of Dutch bros myself). I can’t make recommendations for the youngest unfortunately as it’s out of my wheelhouse. Small board games are good too, like Mint games

To be completely fair, their views weren’t what made X so abhorrent. It was the manipulated algorithms that did nothing but feed you that bullshit. Proper political discourse is necessary for people’s views to evolve.
