It's a shock, isn't it.
"Wait, the rest of the world doesn't do it this way?"
But yeah it's definitely something that I think would do well in Canada, if only we could get it some momentum.

Us too...

I feel you there. I hate awful representatives. And don't even get me started on Alberta's premier.
Not the same, I know, but Alberta's representation is completely UNREPRESENTATIVE.

Well, it seems to me like Dutton has gotten a good elbow to the face this election!

Fascinating...and Independents seem to have an unusually strong showing. We rarely get any independent MPs here in Canada. It's interesting to see how Australia actually tilts VERY independent, all things considered.

Yeah...NAAAAAAH.
Love her. 🤩

Goodness, I'm learning so much about Australian politics today!

Thank you, it was a nail-biter for a while there. Almost everything around me is very blue, but my riding (Edmonton Centre) went red and the riding next door (Edmonton Strathcona) went orange (NDP), so I'm happy about that.

No...it's 10 AM and now I'm hungry before I've made food. Curse you!

Oh good, I'm not alone!
I offer you Timbits, the closest thing we have to Fairy bread.
But they're donut holes, not bread, so closer to cake...

Yes, I've seen both hotdog buns (yes, we call them buns like plebians) and slices of bread.
To me, as a Canadian, putting a sausage into a slice of bread is about as foreign as fairy bread.
I don't understand how you can put so many sprinkles on bread.

Fair enough. I'm actually further left than our furthest left party, but I apply that far left mentality to a holistic view, rather than a pointed focus. I've got opinions on everything from the environment to the economy, social justice/services, and public works.

Looking forward to it. I'll go find out what riding Dutton is in and cheer for the demise of his ambitions!

Ah, yes, Green is our NDP, I see. That's about what I expected.
They still both seem to be left of centre, the Greens are just far, FAR left. (I certainly like the look of them better than our own "Green Party").

I am okay with this updated news!!! I am happy to be wrong! that is a commanding majority right there!

I mean, to me it sounds like you just turn it into a huge party and I am absolutely down for that. If downtown Edmonton turned into a huge festival for a couple of days around the elections, I would absolutely go and risk the sunburns!

That is still a democracy sausage and I approve!!!

So what you're saying is we need to import Australian sausage, got it!

It's so weird for me to think of Liberals as swinging to the right when here in Canada they're our center (slightly center-left, depending on the PM) party.

Canada is spread across six time zones, so I feel that.

Wishing you all the best. And yes, I've been stalking the election pages for about 7-8 hours now. Now that the colours are popping up on the maps, I'm VERY invested in seeing what happens.
Mum has 2 degrees in Political Science. So I'm required to keep up with politics.

Yes, the coalitions seem to be a much bigger part of Australian politics than Canadian, from what I've gathered so far. Our parties only make coalitions if they HAVE to in order to form government.

Yes, that's been my experience as well. We saw this happen in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Vancouver.
However, Calgary and Edmonton traditionally go VERY blue, despite being urban centres. So I felt like it was worth confirming because I've seen exceptions to that trend. (I live in one).

The buy anything but American sentiment is strong around here. I'm hoping that our Prime Minister can get more products from Europe and the Commonwealth on our shelves.
I could use more foreign cheese around. 😋

Oh absolutely tell Trump to f*ck off. We did it here in Canada (though it was a bit too close for comfort at certain moments of the election). But we did it! And now I'm staying up WAY past my bedtime to watch as much of it with you as I can before I pass out.

You've codified the sausage!!!

...Honestly, with how politics go, I'm glad to see the saying is so flexible. Because let's face it, with all of the mud-slinging they do, it really is a rather stinky horse race, and our votes are our bets.
But yes, I did in fact mean spot on.

Oh good, glad to see your logistics are well in hand on election days. You had me worried for a minute there. Silly me.

I guess they give us a bit more leeway here. An advantage, I suppose. 😜
Though now I want to see a video of someone getting locked outside the doors and getting angry about it.
Though I wonder...what happens if there isn't enough space for all the voters?

Yeah, the kinship is real. 🥰

To clarify, time estimates come from when I saw the earliest polls "close" in Newfoundland (low population, so it was expected), and when the last polls in BC finally ran out of long lines of voters. They aren't "official" close times, I just accounted for real-time changes as I watched the voting.

Yeah, that seems to be the Aussie consensus for Canada. But can you imagine trying to keep a whole line of deep fryers running on a sidewalk to keep the poutine rolling out?
Une maudite poutine, indeed.

I'm so glad for you. It may seem like an annoyance to some people, but the right to vote is crucial. I'm so glad that your government figured that out back in the 1920s.
